The 2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Wrestling Championships begin March 19 in Cleveland, Ohio, but last year’s tournament in Philadelphia set a high bar across both team dominance and individual drama.

The 2025 championships showcased how one program can redefine excellence while the rest of the field still delivers breakthrough moments and unforgettable finishes.

Penn State captured the team title in historic fashion, while Nebraska, Oklahoma State and others produced defining performances that shaped the national landscape. From record-setting scoring to last-second upsets, the 2025 event offered a full spectrum of what makes NCAA wrestling compelling.

Penn State Set An NCAA Team Scoring Record

Penn State scored 177.0 points, breaking its own NCAA record and finishing 60 points ahead of second-place Nebraska. The team also produced 10 All-Americans, all placing in the top six.

Wyatt Hendrickson Pulled Off A Heavyweight Upset

Oklahoma State’s Wyatt Hendrickson defeated Olympic champion Gable Steveson 5-4 with a late takedown, creating the tournament’s most memorable moment.

Nebraska Delivered Its Best NCAA Finish Ever

Nebraska placed second with 117.0 points and crowned two individual champions, marking the program’s best finish and first multi-champion year since 1984.

Minnesota Used Depth For A Top-Five Finish

Minnesota placed fifth with three All-Americans, showing how high-end placements can drive team success even without multiple finalists.

Big 12 Turned Depth Into Hardware

The conference produced two champions and 19 All-Americans, with Oklahoma State contributing six of those podium finishes.
