State tournament season is winding down for high school wrestlers across the country, and this year’s standouts from Maryland now will have their chance at grappling glory before they start to think about Spring Break, graduation and summer vacation.

The 2026 Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association Wrestling State Championships will be held March 5-7 at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and all of the action will be broadcast live on FloWrestling and the FloSports app.

The athletes have done the work. They’ve survived the regular season. They’ve fought through city, county, conference and regional events – even the MPSSAA Dual Meet State Championships, held Feb. 14.

Now, the best of the best will battle for state titles across two classifications and two divisions.

Individual high school wrestling in Maryland is split into Class 4A/3A and Class 2A/1A, and then further divided into coed and girls competition, with the female wrestlers being able to choose which category suits them best.

From the eight double-elimination regional events that were held Feb. 27-28, the top four wrestlers in each coed weight class have advanced to the state tournament. Each region included 11-13 schools.

On the girls side, the top three finishers in each weight class have qualified for the state event, which will feature a single-classification 24-athlete bracket.

They’ll all converge on the 5,800-seat multi-purpose Show Place Arena, which hosts everything from horse shows to computer shows and everything in between, plus the Prince George’s County Fair.

As you settle in for the final event of the 2026 Maryland high school wrestling season, here's everything you need to know about the 2026 MPSSAA Wrestling State Championships, including a link to the brackets:

Did You Know: High School Wrestling In Maryland Began In 1970

The statewide high school wrestling initiative in Maryland began in 1970 and has evolved over the decades.

The inaugural state championship in 1970 featured 11 weight classes, but that was tweaked the following season and stayed consistent until 1998. The current weight classes received their latest tweaks in 2024.

Until 2018, team champions were determined during the individual state championships. That process was eliminated with the expansion of the Dual Meet State Tournament to four classifications. The dual event did exist previously, however, debuting in 1994 with two classifications.

The first girls-only state competition took place in 2020. The first girls team state champions were crowned in 2024.

Over the years, nine boys have claimed four individual state titles. So far, five girls make up the list of three-time titlists, but no one has claimed a fourth – yet.
