The 12,000-seat arena is one of four unique venues that make up the Ford Idaho Center, along with an amphitheater, horse park and 100,000-square foot sports center, and it will be bustling with wrestling fans eager to see who will win this year’s state titles.
High school wrestling in Idaho is contested over four classifications that are based on student enrollment – Class 6A (1,400+), 5A (700-1,499), 4A (350-699) and 3A (349 and below) – and the schedule is pretty consistent with other states.
The first day of practice was Nov. 17, and the first matches were Dec. 3.
Fast forward through the holidays and the regular season, and it was time for district competition Feb. 21.
Within each classification are six districts with a predetermined number of qualifiers each sends to the state meet, though there are some variations from district to district.
