In Michigan, the high school wrestling season is known as the Road to the Finals.

The journey begins in mid-November with the first practices of the season. Two weeks later, with Thanksgiving in the rearview mirror and the December holidays on the horizon, the athletes compete for the first time.

It’s likely the two months that follow are a whirlwind, and before they know it, they’re spending Valentine’s Day doing the sport they love.

First, it’s the team district meets. Then individual districts. Then regionals - team and individual.

By late February, most of the hopeful travelers have hit the offramp, but the best of the best are asking Google Maps to guide them to Kalamazoo, Michigan, and/or Detroit for the Michigan High School Athletic Association Team Finals and MHSAA Individual Finals, respectively.

While the action from the two events – Feb. 27-28 and March 6-7 – won’t be broadcast live on FloWrestling or the FloSports app, each match will appear in the FloWrestling archives minutes after concluding.

Across the state, team district competition took place Feb. 11 (Division 1, Division 3) and Feb. 12 (Division 2, Division 4), with each featuring three or four teams and four-team brackets.

The winning team from each district showdown moved on to the regional semifinals (Feb. 18), and each regional winner earned a spot in the Feb. 27 state quarterfinals to kick off the 2026 MHSAA Team Finals at the Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo.

Winners in the state quarterfinal duals get the night to recover, before diving into the semifinals and final Feb. 28.

Individual district competition got underway Feb. 14, and district events for the girls happened Feb. 15.

From districts, the last four standing in each weight class moved on to the regional meets Feb. 21 (traditional) and Feb. 22 (girls), and the goal was the same – finish in the top four places and earn a trip to the 2026 MHSAA Individual Finals at Ford Field in Detroit.

In Michigan, girls have the option to compete in the traditional individual competition of the girls-only competition, but not both.
