It may sound cheesy, but there’s just something special about watching athletes rise to the occasion on the biggest stage and then celebrate their dreams coming true.

For some, that peak is reached in high school, so don’t miss your chance to watch the best wrestlers from across America’s Dairyland come together for the 2026 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament and the 2026 WIAA State Team Tournament.

The individual event will take place at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin, from Feb. 26-28, and the team tournament will head to the La Crosse Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on March 6-7.

Even if you can’t make it in person, that’s OK. We’re got you covered. While the action won’t be broadcast live on FloWrestling or the FloSports app, each match will appear in the FloWrestling archives minutes after concluding.

The talented athletes already battled their way through intense individual sectional competition Feb. 14 and team sectionals Feb. 21.

Each of the three divisions in Wisconsin high school wrestling (Division 1, 2, 3) includes seven sections (A-G).

The 112 largest member schools sponsoring boys wrestling made up Division 1 this season. The next 112 made up Division 2. Division 3 consisted of the remaining schools.

Schools in each division were assigned to one of the seven sectionals, with the first two finishers in each weight class qualifying for the state tournament. The six teams scoring the most points at the individual sectionals qualified for the Team Tournament Program, for a total of 126 teams across the state.

The winning school from each team sectional, plus one wild card in all divisions, advanced to the WIAA State Team Tournament.

An important note is that the 2025-2026 marks the last time female wrestlers are eligible to participate in boys wrestling for the team competition.

Girls competing with the boys was a longtime tradition, but a 2020 approval gave the girls their own individual state tournament starting in 2022 and a standalone team state event beginning in 2027.

For now, though, the best of each will head to the state capital for their shot at individual glory, while the top-tier teams also get to look ahead to sharing the podium with their teammates.

Since these meets might be the end of the athletic line for many of the competitors, at least they’ll get to end their careers in style.

The, Kohl Center, which can seat up to 17,000 guests, is one of the largest venues in the Big Ten and home to the state’s beloved University of Wisconsin Badgers for men’s and women’s basketball and men’s hockey.

The La Crosse Center, about 140 miles away, is a premier meeting and entertainment destination in its own right. The venue boasts 120,000 square feet and can seat up to 10,000 fans. It’s location in downtown La Crosse and proximity to many restaurants and activities will make the weekend more than just another wrestling tournament.

This season marks the start of a three-year agreement between the WIAA and La Crosse Center for the team championship, which will include a girls event in 2027.

The first state team tournament overall was contested across three divisions during the 1991-1992 season. From 2005 through 2025, it was held at the UW Field House in Madison.

This year’s WIAA Individual Wrestling Tournament will be the event’s 83rd edition, while the Girls Individual Wrestling Tournament will be taking place for the fifth time.

The girls-only portion of the individual weekend also will produce a girls champion for the second time. The first team-format state event for the girls will take place next year.

Did You Know: Girls Wrestling In Wisconsin Is Growing Quickly

Mineral Point has produced the most individual boy champions with 58, followed by Stoughton with 55. The first WIAA state tournament was held in 1940.

The list of four-time state champions includes 31 names. Another 81 are three-time winners.

Until 1992 and the creation of the team state tournament, the team champions were determined by a points system at the individual meet.

For the girls, Badger, De Pere and New London each have had three individual champions.

Prior to the 2026 individual tournaments, three girls have won three state titles, while 11 more have won twice.

At this year’s individual state event, four former Division 1 champions will be back in action.

Division 2 will have six, including Dodgeville senior Haakon Peterson, who is aiming for his fourth consecutive title.

Division 3 will have five past champions.

Nine of the 12 weight classes on the girls side of the action will include a past champion.
