FloWrestling subscribers and fans of California high school wrestling have been able to watch the 2025-2026 postseason unfold through a variety of dual, divisional, sectional and Masters events, but the light at the end of the tunnel has been the state meet.

It’s finally that time, and now the year’s top performers are headed to Dignity Health Arena in Bakersfield, California, for the 2026 California Interscholastic Federation State Wrestling Championships presented by the California Correctional Peace Officers Association.

The event will be held Feb. 26-28, and while the action won’t be broadcast live on FloWrestling or the FloSports app, each match will appear in the FloWrestling archives minutes after concluding.

The pool of athletes who will be competing for state championships hail from California’s 10 geographic sections.

While the multi-tiered structure of high school sports in the Golden State seems complex, it’s designed to provide a fair and balanced competitive environment that assures teams and competitors are competing against opponents of similar skill levels from school of similar sizes.

Each section is split into divisions, and there are leagues within the divisions. The goal is to progress from league play to divisional meets to sectional competition to the state tournament.

As you get settled in for the grand finale of the championship season, here's everything you need to know about the 2026 CIF State Wrestling Championships, including a link to the brackets:

Did You Know: High School Championship Wrestling In California Spans Five Decades

The first CIF state championship for boys was held in 1973. The first event for the girls took place in 2011.

Amazingly, it took three decades for California to see its first four-time state champion. That honor went to Bakersfield’s Darrell Vasquez from 1999-2002 at 103, 112, 119 and 125 pounds. In the years since, three more athletes have added their names to the list.

There are 24 three-time champions and 83 wrestlers who have won twice.

On the girls side, five wrestlers own three CIF state titles.

Clovis tops the list of all-time team titles with 13, while the Selma girls lead the way with three.

The Central Section Division IV boys tournament first was held during the 2021-2022 season.
