125: #6 Dean Peterson, Iowa vs #7 Troy Spratley, OK State
This is a rematch from National Duals, where Peterson won 5-4 off a last-second takedown. Despite the loss, Spratley controlled most of the match after securing a takedown a minute into the first period. Since November, Spratley and Peterson have wrestled very similar seasons. Peterson has lost only to Nic Bouzakis and Luke Lilledahl, while Spratley’s only loss was to Eddie Ventresca last week.
This is a toss-up, and one Iowa will likely need, considering how they match up the rest of the way with Oklahoma State. I’m picking Spratley to come out on top this time because of how he was able to get to Peterson’s legs in their last meeting. Peterson had a hard time generating his own offense against Spratley, and I think Spratley will be able to close this one out.
Peterson's win over Spratley:
Prediction: Spratley by decision
Team Score Prediction: OK State 3, Iowa 0
133: #9 Drake Ayala, Iowa vs #6 Jax Forrest, OK State
If Jax Forrest does wrestle against Drake Ayala (which I think is likely), his redshirt will be officially pulled. Forrest is fresh-off his wild win over Aaron Seidel last week and will look to carry that momentum into his match against the two-time NCAA runner-up Drake Ayala. Though Ayala was 4-4 to start the year, he’s won 5 of his last six matches and looked impressive in defeat against Ben Davino and Marcus Blaze. Ayala shouldn’t be overlooked in this matchup.
Still, I give the edge to Jax Forrest based on his abilities in scramble positions and his mat wrestling. Forrest is 9-0 on the year and has bonus points in 7 of those matches - 2 pins and 5 techs. A big part of his bonus points comes from his ability to turn on top and “catch” his opponents on their backs. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Forrest secures nearfall against Ayala.
Prediction: Forrest by decision
Team Score Prediction: OK State 6, Iowa 0
141: #12 Nasir Bailey/Kale Petersen, Iowa vs #2 Sergio Vega, OK State
The potential Vega-Bailey matchup is another rematch from National Duals where Vega won in overtime, 3-0. However, since that match, Vega and Bailey’s seasons have gone in very different directions. Vega is still undefeated and has yet to give up a takedown. His hitlist includes victories over Brock Hardy (2), Ryan Jack, Anthony Echemendia, and Tom Crook. On the other side of things, Bailey is only 10-6 on the year and hasn’t wrestled since January 30th. Because of how the last match played out and how they’ve wrestled since, Vega should be considered a huge favorite on Sunday.
Vega's win over Nasir Bailey:
Prediction: Vega by decision
Team Score Prediction: OK State 9, Iowa 0
149: #14 Ryder Block, Iowa vs #7 Casey Swiderski/Beau Hickman, OK State
Ryder Block defeated Casey Swiderski 5-3 when they wrestled at National Duals in November. That victory was a part of Ryder Block’s hot start to the season that included ranked victories over Josh Edmond, Kade Brown, and Paniro Johnson. However, Block is only 3-6 since January and dropped surprising matches to Drew Roberts and Joseph Zargo. On the other side of things, Casey Swiderski had a rough start and was 4-5 to start the year. Now, Swiderski is riding a 6-match-winning streak with notable wins over Jacob Frost, Caleb Rathjen, Seth Mendoza, and Chance Lamer.
The only caveat to this matchup is that Swiderski hasn’t wrestled since February 1st. Because of that, Beau Hickman started last weekend, leading me to believe that Swiderski isn’t currently 100%. With that unknown, I’m picking Block to get a bounce-back win on Sunday.
Block's win over Swiderski:

Prediction: Block by decision
Team Score Prediction: OK State 9, Iowa 3
157: #16 Jordan Williams, Iowa vs #6 Landon Robideau, OK State
Landon Robideau has been absolutely phenomenal as a true freshman with ranked wins over Ethen Miller, Vincent Zerban, Teague Travis, and Daniel Cardeanas. Beyond that, his only loss is an overtime one to defending national champion Antrell Taylor. Robideau is a big favorite in the matchup against Williams, considering the Hawkeye hasn’t met expectations this season. Jordan Williams is only 8-6 on the year and is currently riding a 4-match losing streak heading into Sunday’s dual.
Prediction: Robideau by decision
Team Score Prediction: OK State 12, Iowa 3
165: #4 Michael Caliendo, Iowa vs #2 LaDarion Lockett, OK State
Lockett vs Caliendo might be the most highly anticipated matchup of this dual and a rematch of their bout at National Duals in November. In that match, Lockett came out on top in a highly competitive, 7-3 win. The difference in that match was two, somewhat controversial takedowns for Lockett (one in the second period and one as time expired). Though Caliendo lost that match, it was clear that not much separates him from Lockett. I’m still picking Lockett to win on Sunday, but I won’t be surprised at all if Caliendo wins the rematch.
Lockett's win over Caliendo:
Prediction: Lockett by decision
Team Score Prediction: OK State 15, Iowa 3
174: #3 Patrick Kennedy, Iowa vs #6 Alex Facundo, OK State
Kennedy-Facundo is a rivalry that dates back to their high school days when Patrick Kennedy won at 2019 Who’s Number One, 5-2. They continued their rivalry in college with Kennedy continuing his success over Facundo with two overtime wins. Their most recent meeting came in November, where Kennedy won 4-1 in overtime. Because of their history, I give Kennedy the edge in this matchup. Facundo has great defense of his own, but he’s really struggled getting past Kennedy’s defense. Until Facundo solves the puzzle and proves he can get a takedown, Kennedy is my pick.
Kennedy's win over Facundo from National Duals:

Team Score Prediction: OK State 15, Iowa 6
184: #2 Angelo Ferrari/Gabe Arnold, Iowa vs #12 Zack Ryder/Trevor Dopps, OK State
There is a TON of intrigue surrounding the 184-pound match in this dual. First, we haven’t seen Angelo Ferrari wrestle since suffering an apparent ankle injury against Rocco Welsh on January 16. Since then, Gabe Arnold has been fantastic, filling in with ranked wins over Silas Allred, Brock Mantanona, and James Rowley. We also haven’t seen Zack Ryder wrestle since he lost to Nick Fox on January 30, and he is also struggling with an injury. Trevor Dopps has filled in for the Cowboys in Ryder’s absence, but Dopps has struggled with losses to Jaden Bullock, Kodiak Cannedy, and Isaac Dean.
Because of Ryder’s injury, whoever takes the mat for the Hawkeyes will be considered the big favorite. Since we haven’t seen Ferrari, and because it’s so close to the post-season, I think we’ll see Arnold in this one, and he’s my pick to win by decision.
Prediction: Arnold by decision
Team Score Prediction: OK State 15, Iowa 9
197: Harvey Ludington/Brody Sampson, Iowa vs #6 Cody Merrill, OK State
Regardless of who Iowa sends out at 197 pounds, Cody Merrill should be considered the favorite. Merrill has been fantastic in his freshman campaign with ranked victories over Evan Bates, Deanthony Parker, Camden McDanel, Rune Lawrence, and Angelo Posada.
Even though Merrill is the favorite, he could have a competitive match if we see Harvey Ludington or Gabe Arnold. Ludington is coming off a big win over Michigan’s Hayden Walters, but Ludington has used his five “free” dates. That means if Ludington wrestles on Sunday, his redshirt will be officially pulled. Gabe Arnold is the Hawkeyes' best chance to win against Merrill. If Ferrari’s back, I expect Iowa to bump Arnold up to 197 pounds. Although it’s been a few years, Arnold and Merrill wrestled in the 2021 Fargo Finals, where Arnold won a close 2-1 bout. Obviously, a lot of time has passed since then, and Merrill will likely have the advantage on Sunday, but if Arnold wrestles at 197, he can absolutely win.
Arnold's win over Merrill from the 2019 Fargo Finals:
Prediction: Merrill by decision
Team Score Prediction: OK State 18, Iowa 9
285: #9 Ben Kueter, Iowa vs #8 Konner Doucet, OK State
Kueter and Doucet have only wrestled once in their college careers - two years ago, where Kueter won 5-1. However, with the way things are trending this year, I give Doucet a slight edge in the match on Sunday. Kueter has struggled this year and is carrying a 5-5 record into the dual. Doucet is wrestling the best he ever has, with a 13-2 record and ranked wins over Jimmy Mullen, Jarrett Stoner, Juan Mora, David Szuba, and Ashton Davis. Knowing both wrestlers, this should be a low-scoring bout with a good chance we see it decided by one takedown or in overtime.
Prediction: Doucet by decision
Final Team Score Prediction: OK State 21, Iowa 9
How Can Iowa Defeat Oklahoma State?
Though I have Oklahoma State winning this dual by 12 points, Iowa could absolutely win. There are so many toss-up matches throughout this dual, and all Iowa needs to do is flip two of the ones I have them losing, and the dual is tied. Dean Peterson, Drake Ayala, Michael Caliendo, and Ben Kueter are all more than capable of winning and giving the Hawkeyes the victory over the Cowboys. Regardless of how the dual plays out, it should be incredible to watch from start to finish!
