It might be hundreds of miles from the top of California to the bottom, but thanks to technology, wrestlers from across the Golden State have been able to keep an eye on their competition throughout the postseason.

They’ll have that opportunity again this weekend, as there will be a plethora of the California Interscholastic Federation sectional events going on with spots in the upcoming state tournament on the line.

Among them, will be the 2026 CIF San Diego Masters Tournament at Olympian High School in Chula Vista, California.

If other competitors want to check in on them, or vice versa, all of the action Feb. 20-21 will be broadcast live on FloWrestling and the FloSports app.

Competition within the San Diego Section isn’t too different from what we’ve seen in many of the other CIF sections.

Schools with wrestling teams again are divided into divisions – Division I, Division II, Division III and Division IV – and the initial goal for the athletes each year is to be one of the 16 competitors in their respective weight classes at the divisional tournament.

This season, the four divisional events were held Feb. 7 (girls) and Feb. 14 (boys), and while seven boys received awards, only four in each weight class will see their seasons continue this week at the CIF San Diego Section Masters Tournament. The girls saw five wrestlers from Division I and II advance, along with three from Division III and Division IV.

The hope now, of course, is to continue the momentum and snag one of the limited spots available for the state tournament. Four boys and three girls from each weight class are slated to advance from the SDS.

In all, California includes 10 geographic sections that all are enduring the same challenges in February on their way to the 2026 CIF State Wrestling Championships presented by the California Correctional Peace Officers Association.

The state event will be held Feb. 26-28 at Dignity Health Arena in centrally located Bakersfield, California.

As you get settled in for the next step of the championship season, here's everything you need to know about the CIF San Diego Section Masters Tournament, including a link to the brackets:

Did You Know: High School Championship Wrestling In California Spans Five Decades

The first CIF state championship for boys was held in 1973. The first event for the girls took place in 2011.

Amazingly, it took three decades for California to see its first four-time state champion. That honor went to Bakersfield’s Darrell Vasquez from 1999-2002 at 103, 112, 119 and 125 pounds. In the years since, three more athletes have added their names to the list.

There are 24 three-time champions and 83 wrestlers who have won twice.

On the girls side, five wrestlers own three CIF state titles.

Clovis tops the list of all-time team titles with 13, while the Selma girls lead the way with three.

The Central Section Division IV boys tournament first was held during the 2021-2022 season.
