It’s tournament time in the Land of Enchantment, and the top female and male wrestlers will need to conjure up their best performances with titles on the line at the 2026 New Mexico Activities Association State Wrestling Championships.

Both groups will compete simultaneously at the Rio Rancho Event Center in Rio Rancho New Mexico, on Feb. 20-21, and all of the action will be broadcast live on FloWrestling and the FloSports app.

For the 2025-2026 season, the number of weight classes for the girls has been expanded from 12 to 14, with competition taking place across one 67-school classification (A-5A) and two regions.

On the boys side of things, schools are divided into two classifications (A-4A, 5A) and two regions. For this season, Class A-4A included 40 schools, and 5A had 27.

The regional events took place Feb. 6-7 (girls) and Feb. 13-14 (boys) and set the stage for another epic state meet.

Seven athletes per weight class from each region automatically qualified for the state tournament, while two software-determined wildcards also were selected to complete the 16-person championship brackets.

The first state championships for the boys were awarded in 1957, and the girls joined the festivities in 2020.

In 2025, the Cleveland girls won their second consecutive team state title under head coach Macario Borrego, while the Volcano Vista boys won their third straight Class 5A crown. The Class A-4A championship went to Aztec, which previously won five in a row from 2018-2022.
