#3 Oklahoma State Wrestling Faces #7 Virginia Tech

No. 3 Oklahoma State (13-1, 7-0 Big 12) faces #7 Virginia Tech (9-2, 4-0 ACC) in Blacksburg on Sunday, February 15, at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN+ in a high-profile interconference clash. Here’s a breakdown with probable starters and key matches.

Overview

Oklahoma State has looked good since an 18-16 semifinal setback to Iowa in the 2025 National Duals Invitational on November 16. The Cowboys have won 10 straight, and only two teams have scored double digits against Oklahoma State since losing to the Hawkeyes.

The program received a boost when 2025 Senior World teamer Jax Forrest opted out of his final semester of high school and moved to Stillwater. Forrest is one of the biggest storylines of the season since we still don’t know if he will redshirt or compete in the postseason (or this dual).

Virginia Tech was also at the National Duals Invitational, losing twice to Minnesota (19-17 and 25-10). Those were the only times this season the Hokies tasted a dual defeat. The Tony Robie-led squad defeated ACC rival North Carolina State, 25-9, on November 15 at the National Duals, and 21-12 on January 30.

The dual history between these two teams is short. Virginia Tech defeated Oklahoma State, 18-16, at the 2011 National Duals on January 8, and the Cowboys won, 34-9, on December 19, 2024.

125-Pound Fever

Here is why the transitive properties don’t work in wrestling. Virginia Tech’s Eddie Ventresca, a two-time All-American who finished fifth at the 2025 NCAA Championships, extended his record to 4-0 against NC State’s Vincent Robinson. Robinson is 3-0 against Spratley, including a tiebreaker win in the 2025 NCAA finals. Spratley is 2-0 against Ventresca, including a 10-1 major decision in their first meeting.

See for yourself:

Troy Spratley (OSU) vs Eddie Ventresca (VT): Spratley leads 2-0
Spratley dec. Ventresca, 6-4 TB, on March 21, 2025 (NCAA semis)
Spratley major dec. Ventresca, 10-1, on Dec. 19, 2024 (dual)

Vincent Robinson (NCS) vs Troy Spratley (OSU): Robinson (NCST) leads 3-0
Robinson dec. Spratley, 3-2, on Nov. 15, 2025 (National Duals)
Robinson dec. Spratley, 2-1 TB, on March 22, 2025 (NCAA finals)
Robinson dec. Spratley, 7-3, on Jan. 13, 2025 (dual)

Eddie Ventresca (VT) vs Vincent Robinson (NCST)
Ventresca dec. Robinson, 3-2, on Jan. 30, 2026 (dual)
Ventresca dec. Robinson, 4-1, on Nov. 15, 2025 (National Duals)
Ventresca dec. Robinson, 4-1 SV, on March 9, 2025 (ACC finals)
Ventresca dec. Robinson, 4-1, on Feb. 21, 2025 (dual)

If Ventresca wins, he breaks the pattern. If Spratley wins, the pattern stays.

It’s also an important match for both teams — especially if the dual begins at 125.

Will Forrest and Seidel Run It Back?

If Forrest wrestles, it will be a rematch of the 2025 PIAA state finals where Forrest beat Seidel 7-1, preventing him from becoming a four-time state champ. It was arguably the most entertaining high school match ever.

If Forrest doesn’t wrestle, Seidel will likely face a tough Ronnie Ramirez.

Below is the Forrest vs Seidel slugfest from the 2025 Pennsylvania state finals. You’re welcome.

Can Tech Hold Tight?

If the Hokies can win the lightest two weights, they will need wins at 141, 149, and 157 to stay in the dual. And Robie has the personnel to make a run.

No. 15 Tom Crook (VT) needs to pull off an upset over #2 Sergio Vega (OSU) at 141, #6 Collin Gaj (VT) needs to hold court against #7 Casey Swiderski (OSU) at 149, and #12 Ethen Miller (VT) needs to top #6 Landon Robideau (OSU).

Gaj and Swiderski had similar starts to the season. Gaj went 0-4 at the National Duals before winning 17 of his next 21 matches. Swiderski lost his first four matches to start the season, including a 1-3 National Duals record, but is 10-1 since November 16, 2025.

Will The Cowboys Ride Away?

Oklahoma State is favored in the heaviest five weights, but 184-pounder Zack Ryder might be out of the lineup. He hasn’t wrestled since a 3-1 sudden victory loss to Northern Iowa’s Nick Fox on January 30. Trevor Dopps filled in for Ryder in two duals, falling against Iowa State and Little Rock. Jaden Bullock (184) spent four seasons at Michigan before transferring to Virginia Tech for his senior season.

Oklahoma State’s Konner Doucet has his hands full with Jim Mullen at heavyweight. Mullen lost by major decision to Koy Hopke, 12-1, at the National Duals, but has been a consistent spot in the line-up this season.
