It’s postseason tournament time for high school wrestling in North Carolina, and all eyes this month will be on the city of Greensboro, which will welcome the sport’s top performers for three championship events.

First up, is the 2026 North Carolina High School Athletic Association Dual Team Wrestling State Championships, and the historic edition of the event will see the top teams from across eight classifications converge on the Novant Health Fieldhouse, one of nine facilities that make up the Greensboro Complex.

The Novant Health Fieldhouse is the home of the Charlotte Hornets’ NBA G League franchise, the Greensboro Swarm, but on Feb. 7, the venue will belong to the boys wrestling teams that will be battling for this year’s state titles.

And, once again, all of the action will unfold live on FloWrestling and the FloSports app.

This year’s NCHSAA Dual Team Wrestling State Championships is the first since a realignment of the NCHSAA’s member schools into eight classifications, instead of four, with a maximum of 64 schools in each.

Rankings from RankWrestler were used to determine the qualifiers and seedings in each classification, with location determining an east-west split to form two regions. Teams within each region then were seeded based on rankings.

The journey to this year’s hardware begins Feb. 3, with the first and second rounds of dual competition being hosted by the top four seeds in Class 2A-7A and the top two seeds in Class 1A and Class 8A.

Here are the numbers of teams in each of the final brackets this year: 1A (11), 2A (28), 3A (32), 4A (32), 5A (32), 6A (32), 7A (32) and 8A (16).

The third-round matches and the regional finals are set for Feb. 5, and the state champions will be decided Feb. 7 in Greensboro.

At the 2025 NCHSAA Dual Team Wrestling State Championships, the final year with only four classifications, the champions were: Uwharrie Charter Academy (1A), Rutherfordton-Spindale Central High School (2A), Union Pines High School (3A) and Cardinal Gibbons High School (4A).

The win for Uwharrie Charter Academy was the team’s third in a row and fourth overall. The first came in 2019.

While the boys are fighting for this year’s team titles, the girls will begin their quest for individual wrestling glory.

Regional competition for the girls will take place Feb. 6-7, though the boys won’t be far behind. Their regional matches will be held Feb. 13-14, and the ultimate goal for all involved will be to qualify for the 2026 NCHSAA State Individual Wrestling Tournaments, scheduled for Feb. 19-21.

The individual state meet will include seven classifications for the boys (1A and 2A are combined) and two for the girls (1A-4A and 5A-8A), and the event will take place at the 22,000-seat First Horizon Coliseum, also part of the Greensboro Complex.

Along with hosting the top high school wrestlers in North Carolina, the First Horizon Coliseum has welcomed NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships, ACC basketball tournaments, concerts, shows, professional wrestling and more.
