Seven Squads To Watch For The PIAA Team Championship Chase

The individual high school postseason is drawing close in the Keystone State. With that, the PIAA District Dual tournaments will be held across the state this weekend, when all participating teams will be competing to qualify for the 2026 PIAA Team Wrestling Championships. Check out some of the top AA and AAA dual teams in Pennsylvania.

Faith Christian Academy — District 1 AA

The #4-ranked team in the Flo 40 National High School Wrestling Team Rankings is having another fantastic season. Faith Christian Academy won its first 15 duals before falling 31-29 last week to then-#7 Delbarton. The Lions won their second straight Ironman team title in December and finished second at the prestigious Doc Buchanan Invitational in California at the beginning of the month. With horses like state champions #2 Adam Waters, #4 Nicholas Singer, #5 Fred Bachmann, and #6 Joe Bachmann leading the charge, Faith Christian is the favorite to win its fourth straight PIAA AA Team state title next weekend.

Bishop McCort — District 6 AA

Despite a different-looking lineup this season, #8 Bishop McCort has still navigated its way through one of the nation’s toughest schedules and is 10-0 heading into this weekend’s District 6 AA Duals. McCort was sixth at Ironman, fourth at Beast Of The East, sixth at Powerade, and won the Mid-Winter Mayhem earlier this month. In their last three duals, the Crushers knocked off #20 St. Edward, #35 Detroit Catholic Central and posted a 28-27 comeback win against #10 Wyoming Seminary. McCort has been the AA Team state runner-up to Faith Christian the last two seasons, but will look to overcome its in-state rival next weekend in Johnstown for the AA Team State Championship.

Bishop McDevitt — District 3 AA

After finishing third at last year’s PIAA AA Team State Championships, Bishop McDevitt has put together another strong lineup. After an eighth-place finish at Powerade last month and a sixth-place finish at Escape The Rock two weeks ago, McDevitt has catapulted itself up the rankings to #19 in the country. The Crusaders are 12-0 in duals heading into the District 3 AA Duals this weekend and have put themselves in position for another trophy finish at the Team State tournament.

Nazareth — District 11 AAA

Nazareth is led by one of the winningest coaches in PIAA history and National Wrestling Hall of Fame member — Dave Crowell — who is in his 41st season as a head coach. After finishing as the state runner-up last season, Nazareth is currently the favorite to win its fourth overall PIAA Team AAA state title. The Blue Eagles are 10-1 this season in duals with a tight 29-25 win over Emmaus a few weeks back, and their only loss came to Grassfield (VA) at the Virginia Duals.

Emmaus — District 11 AAA

Emmaus is currently having its best season in years, sporting a 14-1 dual record. The Green Hornets put everyone on notice when they opened their season on Dec. 3 with a 31-21 win over the four-time defending PIAA AAA Team state champions, Bethlehem Catholic. They will likely have to repeat this victory over Bethlehem Catholic this weekend at the District 11 AAA Duals in order to guarantee themselves a spot at the Dual state tournament, as District 11 only advances the top two teams for the state tournament.

Bethlehem Catholic — District 11 AAA

Bethlehem Catholic is the winningest program in PIAA history in terms of team titles. The Golden Hawks won four straight AA Team State Championships from 2011-14, then after making the move up to the AAA class, they won titles in 2016, 2018, and 2019 before picking up the last four PIAA AAA Team Championships for a record of 11 total team state titles. Led by three-time state champion #6 Keanu Dillard, Bethlehem Catholic will look to battle for its fifth straight team title over the next two weekends.

Notre Dame-Green Pond — District 11 AAA

Another District 11 AAA powerhouse is Notre Dame-Green Pond. The #28 team in the nation is led by freshman #10 Max Quarry and senior #9 Dominic Sumpolec. Along with a 17th-place finish at Ironman, a ninth-place finish at Powerade, and 10th-place finish at Escape the Rock, Notre Dame-Green Pond is currently 7-2 on the season in duals, after taking back-to-back losses to Bethlehem Catholic and Wyoming Seminary earlier this month.

Pennsylvania High School Premium Rankings

Check out the Pennsylvania High School Wrestling Premium Rankings, which are generated by using an athlete’s complete match history to predict a wrestler’s performance against others in their weight class by considering factors such as win-loss records, the quality of their victories (pins, technical falls, major decisions), the strength of their opponents, and overall historical performance patterns.

The data is updated every Monday, sourced from the Trackwrestling season results. Since each team is responsible for maintaining its season results, any data discrepancies for a wrestler should be addressed by contacting their coach to manage the information within the season. This includes the weight class assigned. Wrestlers are eligible to be ranked after competing in five matches at a single weight.
