Competition in high school wrestling in Delaware is broken into two categories – Division I and Division II – based on enrollment. Larger schools and smaller schools, respectively.
Within those divisions are smaller leagues, with the major ones being Blue Hen Flight A and Henlopen North in Division I and Blue Hen Flight B and Henlopen South in Division II.
At the end of the regular season, the programs with the best records in their respective divisions earn automatic entry into the DIAA Wrestling Dual Team State Championships.
The tournament field for the state event consists of eight-team brackets.
In Division I, it’s the Blue Hen Flight A champion, Henlopen North winner and six at-large selections made by the DIAA Boys Wrestling Committee from the pool of teams that fill out applications.
In Division II, the bracket includes the Blue Hen Flight B champion, Henlopen South winner and six at-large selections made by the committee.
Selection and seeding (into a traditional bracket), also done by the Boys Wrestling Committee, are based on head-to-head competition, regular-season results against common opponents, strength of schedule and any relevant information provided on the application.
All quarterfinal matches for 2026 are scheduled for Feb. 11, and the higher-seeded team in each match will be the host.
The semifinals and finals for both divisions all will take place Feb. 14 at Smyrna High School.
The weight classes in Delaware high school wrestling are (in pounds): 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 144, 150, 157, 165, 175, 190, 215, 285.
At the 2025 DIAA Duals, the top-seeded Salesianum School cruised through the Division I bracket with wins of 62-13 and 59-12, before topping defending champion Sussex Central in the final, 43-28. Salesianum last title came in 2023.
The results in Division II were similar, as the Delaware Military Academy, also the No. 1 seed, opened with wins of 70-10 and 69-12, before besting Saint Mark’s in the title tilt for the second consecutive year, this time by a score of 42-24. The win for DMA marked the team’s four straight state championship.

Did You Know: Girls Wrestling In Delaware Is Growing
While the boys in Delaware have been wrestling for state championships since 1957, girls wrestling still is classified as a Level 2 sport in Delaware, which means it is not yet a DIAA-sanctioned championship sport. In order to reach that status, the sports must be Level 3.
However, to help grow girls wrestling in Delaware and keep the expanding opportunities coming and organized, a Girls Wrestling Sport Committee has been established.
Also interesting is that until 1993, the team state champions in Delaware were determined by points earned by each team during the DIAA Individual State Championships.
Beginning in 1993, the Wrestling Dual Team State Championships is where the team winners are decided.
