The NSAA State Dual Wrestling Championships features competition across four classifications – Class A, Class B, Class C and Class D – which are based on total enrollment. Class A schools have the largest enrollment, and Class D has the smallest.
Though Nebraska does have girls wrestling, only the boys programs participate in the duals.
All teams get placed into an eight-team bracket, with the first-round winners advancing to the semifinals, and the losing teams moving to the consolation bracket.
The final two teams in the consolation bracket will wrestle for fifth and sixth place.
Semifinal winners move on to the final, while the losing teams face off for third place.
The Dual Wrestling Championships was held for the first time in 2013 and has returned each year except for 2021, when it was canceled due to COVID-19.
The 2025 tournament had a little bit of everything. There were two first-time winners, a three-peat and another program returning to the winner’s circle for the first time since 2018.
In Class A, Lincoln East finally was able to break through after four runner-up finishes (2018, 2019, 2020, 2023). The Spartans were participating in the event for the eighth consecutive year and topped Grand Island in the final, 45-23.
The Lincoln East victory ended a run of five straight titles for Millard South, which has won eight of the 12 years the tournament has been held.
Battle Creek, in Class C, was the other team to hoist the championship trophy for the first time, a feat that came in the squad’s 11th year of participation and after runner-up performances in 2017, 2022 and 2023. Battle Creek defeated David City, 53-16.
The Braves’ win at the Dual Championships came on the heels of their first team title at the NSAA Boys State Individual Championships in 2024 – success they were able to repeat at the 2025 event.
In Class B, Omaha Skutt Catholic topped Bennington 34-27 to win at the Nebraska State Duals for the third consecutive season and seventh time overall.
Finally, in Class D, it was Burwell reaching the top spot on the podium for the first time since 2018 with a 40-30 victory over Central Valley.
