The Return of Jax Forrest
Since winning the 61 kg U23 World Championship in October, the #1 ranked wrestler on both the Pound for Pound rankings as well as the Class of 2026 High School Big Board - Jax Forrest has been his most inactive in what seems like forever. We have gotten used to seeing the Bishop McCort trio of Forrest, Bo Bassett, and Melvin Miller competing in a national level tournament every couple of weeks the last few seasons, and while Bassett and Miller have continued that regular schedule, Forrest has only competed twice this season, once December 4th in a 19-4 tech fall win over Haydn Strittmatter, and the other was a 19 second pin over Octavious Harris-Haye on December 16th. The Oklahoma State commit will make his return to high level competition at Powerade, where he will be thrown into a bracket that features six nationally ranked competitors, including Beast of the East champion #3 Tyler Dekraker and Ironman champion #4 Karson Brown. Forrest has won Powerade three times already and along with his teammate Bassett will look to join an exclusive group of four time Powerade champions this week, as only six other wrestlers have ever achieved this feat. There have been many rumors swirling around the wrestling world that Forrest may be enrolling at Oklahoma State for the second semester, and while these are all still rumors and nothing has been confirmed, if this is the last time we get to see Jax compete in high school, that is even more reason to tune in!

51 Nationally Ranked Wrestlers
Thats right, this years Powerade field will feature 51 wrestlers currently ranked in the top 20 in the country at their weight class! Amongst those ranked wrestlers there are four #1 ranked wrestlers in the country, one #2, as well as eight returning Powerade champions from 2024, eight returning runner-ups, and 55 returning place-winners from this tournament a season ago! With this much depth in a two-day tournament, you can surely expect plenty of incredible action and upsets.
Three Multi-Time Champions Looking To Repeat
There are three #1 nationally ranked wrestlers competing this weekend that along with being the top wrestler in the country in their weight classes, all three have never lost at Powerade. #1 Landon Sidun is a two-time Powerade champion and the top seed heading into the weekend at 121 pounds. As previously mentioned in the article, Jax Forrest and Bo Bassett will look to become just the seventh and eighth four-time Powerade champions this week, joining a really prestigious list of guys. The only six guys to win four titles at Powerade are: Ty Moore (1986-89), Marshall Peppelman (2006-09), Nico Megaludis (2007-10), Jimmy Gulibon (2008-11), Chance Marstellar (2010-13), and Luke Pletcher (2012-15). Bassett has already been on a warpath this fall and early winter as he became the first wrestler to ever win four Super 32 titles back in October, then became just the third athlete to win four Ironman titles a couple weeks back, and dominated through Beast of the East last week for his first title there. I am really excited to watch all three of these athletes in action over the next two days and we will see if they can continue their unbeaten streak at this incredible tournament.

Highly Anticipated Rematches at 114, 152, and 189 lbs
Wrestling fans will be treated to possibly getting to see some really high-level rematches. At 114 pounds, we could see a rematch of the 107 lb semifinals last season between #17 Chase Karenbauer and #2 Justin Farnsworth. In that semifinal last year, it was Karenbauer taking it 6-4 before going on to win the whole tournament. Since then, Farnsworth has had an excellent year where he has finished runner-up at National Preps, Fargo, Ironman, and Beast of the East and is the undisputed #2 wrestler in the country at 114 pounds. Karenbauer and Farnsworth are the top two seeds at this weight, so we could likely see it in the finals on Tuesday. Farnsworth will look to get this one back and get back to the top of the podium at a major tournament.

At 152 pounds, we could see a #1 vs. #2 matchup for the third time in just over 2 months. #1 Bo Bassett and #2 Charlie Desena have met in both the Super 32 and Beast of the East finals, and although they have both been pretty dominant bonus point wins for Bassett, Desena continues to prove his ability navigated his way through the brackets of these loaded tournaments. Bassett is the top seed while Desena received the four seed, so this one will likely go down Tuesday morning in the semifinals so make sure you tune in for that!

Another round three in the making could happen at 189 pounds. #7 Dominic Sumpolec defeated #8 Salah Tsarni in the round of 16 at Ironman a couple of weeks back 2-1 in ultimate tiebreaker, with Tsarni battling back to finish fourth while Sumpolec finished fifth at 190 pounds. Tsarni picked up a huge last-second victory over U17 World bronze medalist Tanner Hodgins in the semifinals of the Beast of the East last week to set up the rematch in the Beast finals. Once again, it was Sumpolec who was able to come out on top for his first Beast of the East title, winning 8-4. These guys have been extremely battle-tested early in the season and I am very excited at the possibility of getting to see round 3 in the finals this week between Sumpolec and Tsarni.

#2 Melvin Miller vs. #4 Zeno Moore
Two of the most exciting middle weights currently in high school could do battle this week at 160 pounds. #2 Melvin Miller was a champion here a year ago and actually defeated #1 at the time Alessio Perentin in a tight 4-2 match to not only win the 160-pound title, but also clinched the team title for Bishop McCort in what was an incredibly competitive team race last year between McCort, Delbarton, Lake Highland Prep, and Malvern Prep. Moore was a runner-up at Powerade last season to Jayden James, who actually just defeated Miller in an absolute classic Ironman final two weeks ago, 8-5 in sudden victory. To my knowledge, these two have only hit once in recent years back in the 2023 16U Fargo Quarterfinals, and it was Miller taking it 9-6. These two are both lengthy wrestlers with high octane offense and a lot of different ways to score. I see this one being an incredible potential final, and it could also definitely be a decider in the team race as both Lake Highland Prep and Bishop McCort will once again be in a battle for that Powerade team title.

Another Extremely Competitive Team Race
This years race for the 2025 Powerade team title will be another war as this years field includes six of the top 10 nationally ranked teams from our Flo 40 National High School Team Rankings, including #2 Blair Academy, #5 Lake Highland Prep, #6 Malvern Prep, #7 Bishop McCort, #9 Wyoming Seminary, and #10 Christian Brothers. These teams have been battling it out over the last couple of weeks between Ironman and Beast of the East, and it has been Blair Academy able to have the best results after a runner-up finish at Ironman to #1 Faith Christian Academy, and they followed that up with a really strong performance to win the Beast of the East team title. Last year's team race came down to the very last finals match, and with the depth of these top teams I could see a very similar finish as any of these highly ranked matches could swing it in favor of another team.
