Over the past 15 years, Penn State has been the most dominant program in NCAA Division I Men’s Wrestling, and while the Nittany Lions weren’t present at the major events that helped kick off the 2025-2026 season, fans will get a close-up look at the team this week.

Penn State has eased into the new campaign, and the squad’s Dec. 5 visit to Drexel will mark the third time the Nittany Lions have been in action.

The PSU-Drexel showdown will take place at the home of Drexel Athletics, the Daskalaskis Athletic Center in Philadelphia, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Eastern.

The dual already is sold out, the first sellout in Drexel wrestling history, but fans still will have the opportunity to watch the action live on FloWrestling and the FloSports app.

Despite their long histories and close proximity, Penn State and Drexel have only met twice before – during the 2002-2003 season and again last year, with Penn State playing host and winning 41-3 as part of a 15-0 season that ended with a fourth consecutive NCAA Division I team national championship.

Top-ranked Penn State had the opportunity to compete at the recent inaugural National Duals Invitational in mid-November, but instead opted to stay home and open things with a low-profile one-on-one night on the mat.

The National Duals Invitational featured 11 of the top 12 teams from the 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships and eight of the top 10 teams from this season’s early rankings, with Ohio State winning the event and $200,000 top prize.

That same weekend, Penn State was opening the season by welcoming Oklahoma to the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pennsylvania, for a dual that again showed why Penn State is the team to beat in collegiate wrestling. The Nittany Lions shut out the visitors 45-0.

Just before Thanksgiving, the Nittany Lions made their presence known at the Black Knight Invitational in West Point, New York, where they had nine individual champions and six runners-up. In all, 20 wrestlers participated for PSU, and 19 placed.

Drexel was 11-10 last year and has opened the new season with wins over Duke (37-4) and Morgan State (38-9), along with participating in three other multi-team events.

The Dragons have been recognized for the early success and landed at a tie for No. 50 on the most recent 2025-2026 NCAA DI Wrestling Rankings.
