Journeymen Wranglemania returns to Liberty High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, again in 2025, and there’s no doubt the participating teams will put on a show that will get the wrestlers and fans ready for the season ahead.

The event will help kick off the new campaign, which runs from November through late March, and competitors from 10 schools will get to showcase their skills, while trying to start the year in the win column.

Nine of the 10 teams headed to Bethlehem this year hail from the East Coast, with one making the trip from the Midwest. 

The slate includes Appalachian State, Duke, Hofstra, Indiana, Lehigh, Lock Haven, Long Island University, Rutgers, the University of Virginia and the U.S. Naval Academy.

In the preseason edition of the National Wrestling Coaches Association Coaches Poll, released on Oct. 29, Lehigh landed at No. 8, and Rutgers settled in at No. 15, while Indiana, Lock Haven and Navy all received votes.

Once again, Penn State topped the rankings after going 15-0 last season on the way to a fourth consecutive team national title, the team’s 12th championship since 2011. Though close enough to hit Wranglemania, Penn State’s season actually will begin at home Nov. 14 against Oklahoma.

For the squads that will be present at Wranglemania, each will get the opportunity to face two other schools, except for Indiana and Rutgers, which only have one clash scheduled. Matches will take place throughout the day across three mats.

Journeymen Wranglemania won’t be the only action in town on the weekend of Nov. 8-9, however, as Sunday will feature an even bigger event – the 2025 Journeymen Collegiate Classic – at nearby Freedom High School, which will feature more than 20 collegiate teams, including all 10 from Saturday’s competition.

The 2026 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships will take place at the Rocket Arena in Cleveland from March 19-21.

About Journeymen Wrestling

The Journeymen Wrestling Club was the brainchild of Frank Popolizio, now a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (2018).

Popolizio’s hope, when developing the concept in 1999, was to bring top-tier wrestling to upstate New York, while supporting and teaching the area’s up-and-coming amateur competitors. 

His efforts first brought Division I collegiate teams to the area, and it wasn’t long before Popolizio was able to introduce a youth program, plus camps and clinics that featured some of the sport’s top names as instructors and mentors.

Even as the Journeymen Wrestling Club continued to grow, host more events and spread its messages, Popolizio continued reaching the next generation of stars as a championship-winning high school coach in the Capital Region of upstate New York.
