Bo Bassett & Melvin Miller Commit To Wrestle At Virginia Tech

In huge recruiting news, both Bo Bassett and Melvin Miller have announced their commitment to wrestle at Virginia Tech. Both out of Bishop McCort High School in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Bassett is the #2 overall recruit in the class of 2026, while Miller is the #1 recruit in the class of 2027. 

Bassett wrote in his commitment:

Officially a Hokie. Time to Work.🦃

I am Committing to Virginia Tech!!! The next chapter begins in Hokie Nation!! I can’t wait to chase down National, World, and Olympic Titles in Blacksburg.

Miller wrote in his commitment:

Beyond blessed to announce my commitment to Virginia Tech! I will be a legend for the Hokie Nation. Grateful to be apart of the movement in Blacksburg. We are coming!🦃

What Weights Will Bassett & Miller Wrestle In College?

Bassett is currently the #1-ranked wrestler in the country at 150 pounds. However, Bassett has most recently wrestled at 65 kg (143.3 pounds) on the freestyle scene. That means we'll likely see Bassett wrestle either 141 or 149 at the next level. Miller is currently ranked #1 at 165 pounds, but with two full years of high school remaining, Miller will likely end up at 174 or 184 for the Hokies. As the number one-ranked wrestlers in the country, both Bassett and Miller will compete next at Who's Number One on October 11.

Bassett & Miller's Outstanding High School Accomplishments

Both Bo Bassett and Melvin Miller will bring with them incredible expectations to Blacksburg due to their accomplishments over the past few years. Bo Bassett won a U17 world title in 2021 and a U20 world bronze medal in 2024. Bassett is also a two-time Pennsylvania state champion, three-time Super 32 champion, and a won Fargo title last summer. Miller is also a two-time Pennsylvania state champion, has won two Fargo titles, and is a Super 32 champion. He finished as runner-up in the 2025 U20 World Team Trials challenge tournament and finished fifth at the 2024 U17 World Championships.
