Taking On The World
The U17 and U20 divisions are competing for world team spots. Each tournament concludes with a best-of-three series to determine who will represent the United States at each of these World Championships. The U15 division is competing for a Pan-Am Championship spot.
The 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions determine this country’s national champion in each age group.
U15 Pan-Am Championships: May 22-24, Guatemala City, Guatemala
U17 World Championships: July 28-Aug. 3, Athens, Greece
U20 World Championships: August 18-24, Sofia, Bulgaria
Another College National Championship (Sort Of)
The U23 division also concludes with a best-of-three series but winning doesn’t necessarily mean qualification for the World Championships. The top U23 eligible wrestler who places in the top three at the World Team Trials can claim the spot. National champions in the U23 category are offered the spot if there isn’t a U23-eligible wrestler on the national team (top three).
U23 national champions will be offered the opportunity to compete at the U23 Pan-American Championships April 10-11 in Queretaro, Mexico. If a champion cannot participate, the opportunity will be offered in rank order from runner-up down to eighth place in the weight class.
The U23 championships will feel like a college national tournament since many of the participants recently completed their college seasons. This allows for cross-divisional match-ups with a few high school stars between NAIA, NCAA, and NJCAA divisions.
NCWWC and NAIA champions registered in the U23 division include Ava Bayless (50), Emilie Gonzalez (50), Cristelle Rodriguez (55), Lexi Janiak (59), Carolina Moreno (59), Katie Lange (62), Adaugo Nwachuckwu (62), Reese Larramendy (65), and Tristan Kelly (76).
That's on top of boatloads of All-Americans.
U23 World Championships are October 20-26 in Novi Sad, Serbia

The 50 kg U20 Division Is Loaded!
Stop everything you’re doing this weekend to watch this weight. The Round of 16 will be just as good as the semifinals.
Highlight entries include Jaclyn Bouzakis, Makennah Craft, Heather Crull, Brianne Graves, Madison Heinzer, Julia Horger, Paige Morales, Rianne Murphy, Julianna Ocampo, Val Solorio, Kiely Tabalgo, Gabby Tedesco, Morgan Turner, and Katey Valdez.
Will a new star emerge? Only the top eight so several good wrestlers won’t make the podium.
Jaclyn Bouzakis and Morgan Turner Are Doubling Up
Bouzakis and Turner met in last year’s best-of-three U17 final at 46 kg, won by Turner in straight matches.
Both are entered in the U17 division, with Bouzakis at 46 and Turner at 49, and the U20 division at 50 kg.
Turner won a 2023 U17 World title at 43 kg and bronze in 2024 at 46, and Bouzakis won bronze in 2023 at 40 kg.
Both prep stars looked sharp in the off-season by dominating college opens, but only one has the opportunity to make two World teams this year.
Taina Fernandez Is On A Vision Quest
“Vision Quest” author Terry Davis is from Spokane, which is why the iconic wrestling film is set there. Fernandez will stop at nothing to find the best competition, but she might not get it at Women’s Nationals in Spokane.
She surrendered four points in seven matches last year, earning six techs and a fall. Fernandez eventually won the 61 kg U17 World title by blitzing the competition.
The 15-year-old only has two known losses against female competition: one to a U23 World champion from Canada when she was 14 and one to a Nigerian Olympian and U23 World bronze medalist.
Fernandez is on a Vision Quest to be the best in the world. She’s the favorite to make it happen again this year.

Cristelle Rodriguez also defends her 55 kg World title after an undefeated college season. She won her second NAIA title for Doane.
Sister Act
Sisters Violette Lasure and Juliet Alt won Pennsylvania state titles together, now they’ll attempt to make U17 World teams together. Lasure is entered at 69 kg and Alt at 73.
