Day 1 of the 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships did not disappoint, bringing more surprise upsets than we thought possible.

Only 80 wrestlers remain in contention for their respective weight class championships after the competition kicked off on Thursday morning.

The pigtails and first round of the tournament cut the 330 wrestlers present down to just 160.

Thursday evening's rounds then cut that number in half, leaving eight wrestlers in each weight class to vie for an NCAA Championship title.
