David Taylor dipped into rival territory and snagged one of the nation’s top prospects Sunday when the first-year Oklahoma State coach secured a commitment from two-time Iowa state champion Dreshaun Ross.

Ross, the #3 prospect on the 2026 Big Board, narrowed his top four list to Iowa, Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Penn State in November before selecting the Cowboys. He announced his decision Sunday afternoon on Instagram.

His commitment comes on the heels of Oklahoma State’s swing through Iowa last weekend, where the Cowboys picked up road victories at Northern Iowa and Iowa State. In between, Taylor made a stop at the Ed Winger Invitational on the outskirts of Des Moines, where Ross ran through the 215-pound bracket.

The Ross recruiting chase heated up two years ago when college football programs joined college wrestling coaches in pursuit of the top heavyweight prospect. Football offers began flooding in during the hours and days after Ross ran through Iowa’s Class 3A 195-pound bracket as a freshman. Iowa, Purdue and Iowa State were first in line before Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Wisconsin and Michigan joined the pack.

But Ross aggravated a shoulder injury last summer in Fargo and underwent surgery that shelved him for the U17 World Championships and forced him to miss his junior football season and the first half of the wrestling season.

Ross is the second top-25 prospect on the 2026 Big Board to commit to the Cowboys. Oklahoma State also scooped up #22 Kellen Wolbert. For Taylor and company, it’s shaping up to be a nice follow-up class to the 2025 group Oklahoma State assembled, headlined by #3 Dee Lockett, #5 Landon Robideau and #6 Sergio Vega.
