Cowboys Ride To Victory After Slow Start

The bright spot of the night for the Wolfpack came at 125 pounds when freshman #16 Vincent Robinson upset #2 Troy Spratley in the opening bout of the dual. Robinson earned a first-period takedown and held a 4-2 lead late in the third when Spratley got in on a single leg with a minute left. Spratley almost converted for three but Robinson scrambled through the position to earn a takedown of his own and seal the victory with 30 seconds left. That win will vault Robinson up the rankings and put him in the title conversation at 125 pounds this year.

Cowboy fans weren't disappointed for long thanks to Cael Hughes' performance at 133 pounds. Hughes brought everyone in Gallagher-Iba to their feet when he pinned two-time All-American Kai Orine after coming out on top of a scramble in the third period.

Oklahoma State continued to roll the rest of the night winning the next 8 matches to close out the dual in dominant fashion. Despite the score being lop-sided, NC State kept matches close at 149, 165, 174, and 184 but Oklahoma State was just slightly better in every match. Ranked #3 in our dual and tournament rankings, the Cowboys have cemented themselves as trophy contenders this year and one of the most entertaining teams in the country.
