When Is The 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships?

The 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships will be held March 20-22 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University and PHL Sports will host the event. 

The announcement was made in late 2020, with 2011 being the last time the tournament was held in Philadelphia. 

The season-ending competition will be the culmination of another year of hard work for 330 athletes. This number includes 33 competitors in each of the 10 weight classes. 

Of the 330 spots, approximately will 70 qualify automatically through qualifying tournaments, and 200 will be determined based on how the athletes performed during the season. The remaining spots will be at-large selections made by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee.

The brackets for the 2025 Division I Wrestling Championships will be revealed during a formal selection show on March 12.

The winner of each 33-athlete double-elimination bracket will be the national champion. The final eight competitors in each bracket will be honored as All-Americans. 

While competing individually, athletes also will be earning points for their schools, and the school with the most point will be crowned the team national champion. 

At this time, there are 77 NCAA Division I schools that sponsor wrestling, totaling approximately 2,400 wrestlers.

The 2025 Division I Wrestling Championships will include 10 weight classes:

  • 125 pounds
  • 133 pounds
  • 141 pounds
  • 149 pounds
  • 157 pounds
  • 165 pounds
  • 174 pounds
  • 184 pounds
  • 197 pounds
  • Heavyweight (183-285 pounds)

How To Watch The 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Wrestling Championships

ESPN has presented the NCAA Wrestling Championships since 1980.

In 2024, every match of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships was broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.

Each day started on ESPNU, while a special setup on ESPN+ allowed fans to watch every single match up to the medal round. The championship round and award presentations traditionally air on ESPN. 

About The Wells Fargo Center

The Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia is the home of the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers, NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, National Lacrosse League’s Philadelphia Wings and Villanova men’s basketball. 

The venue has been open since 1996 and continues to be a destination for sporting events and championships, shows, concerts and other events of all sizes. The seating capacity is 21,000.

What Is The Format For The NCAA Division I Men's Wrestling Championships?

Each weight class at the Division I Wrestling Championships will feature a 33-wrestler bracket and a double-elimination format. Each match will be a seven-minute contest.

What School Won The Team Title At The 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Wrestling Championships?

Penn State won the team title at the 2024 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. It was the third consecutive win for the Nittany Lions, who have won 11 of the last 13 years the event was held. 

Since 2011, Ohio State (2015) and Iowa (2021) are the only other teams to win the national title. The tournament was not held in 2020 due to COVID-19.

What School Has Won The Most Titles At The NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships?

The NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships first was held in 1928. The first official team title was awarded in 1934.

Including any unofficial titles won prior to 1934, Oklahoma State owns the most team championships with 34. OSU is followed by Iowa (24), Penn State (13) and Iowa State (eight), Oklahoma (seven) and Minnesota (three). Six other teams have won one title. 

When Is The NCAA Division II Men's Wrestling Championships?

The 2025 Division II Men's Wrestling Championships will be held March 14-15 at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis. 

When Is The NCAA Division III Men's Wrestling Championships?

The 2025 Division III Men's Wrestling Championships will be held March 14-15 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence Rhode Island.
