Amit Elor wins gold and Sarah Hildebrandt reaches the gold medal finals on Day 2 of the Olympic wrestling competition.

Olympic Wrestling Semifinals & Finals - Day 2 Match Notes

Day two semifinals and finals started at 12:15 PM EST. Follow along here for live updates and match results.

American Sarah Hildebrandt won her first two matches and will face Otgonjargal Dolgorjav of Mongolia in the semifinals. These two have met at the past two World Championships, with Dolgorjav winning both times to reach the finals. 

Amit Elor wrestles in the 68-kilogram finals and looks to become the third American to win an Olympic gold medal in women's freestyle wrestling. She faces Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan in the finals. 

Cuban star Mijain Lopez, 41, is seeking his fifth Olympic gold medal when he faces Yasmani Acosta of Chile in the 130 kg Greco-Roman final. 

Semifinals

GR 77 kg: Nao Kusaka (Japan) over Malkhas Amoyan (Armenia), 3-1

First period: Kusaka scores first on a passivity. He tries a reversal lift from par terre but doesn't score. Amoyan leads on criteria, 1-1, with a step out seconds later. 

Second period: Kusaka scores a takedown off the whistle for a 3-1 lead. No scoring for the remainder of the match. Kusaka wins 3-1 and advances to the gold medal finals. 

GR 77 kg: Demeu Zhadrayev (Kazakhstan) over Sanan Suleymanov (Azerbaijan), 6-1

First period: Zhadrayev pushes his opponent during a neutral scramble in the opening seconds for a 1-0 lead on a stepout. Zhadrayev adds a second point on a passivity then gets four points on a reverse lift from par terre for a 6-0 lead with 1:20 left. 

Second period: Suleymanov gets on the board with a passivity point but doesn't score from parre terre. Zhadrayev wins, 6-1.

GR 97 kg: Artur Aleksanyan (Armenia) over Gabriel Rosillo (Cuba), 5-3

First period: Rossillo scores first on passivity and gets his chance on top. Rosillo scores on a reverse lift, Aleksanyan scores a reversal then scores two turns. Aleksanyan leads 5-3 after being down 3-1. 

Two points: No scoring. Aleksanyan wins 5-3 for a spot in the gold medal finals. 

GR 97 kg: Mohammadhadi Saravi (Iran) over Mohamed Gabr (Egypt), 6-0

First period: Savari used a two-on-one to secure the first point on a step-out. Saravi scores a second point on passivity with a chance on top. Saravi tilts Gabr on a gut wrench to extend his lead to 4-0 with a minute left. 

Second period: Saravi scores a takedown near the edge for a 6-0 lead. He holds the lead the remainder of the period for a 6-0 win and a spot in the gold medal finals. 

WFS 50 kg: Vinesh Phogat (India) over Yusneylis Guzman (Cuba), 5-0

First period: Guzman gets extended on a couple of shots but Phogat defends. No points halfway through the period. Phogat scores first on an activity clock violation. Guzman is in on another shot but Phogat flattens her out and the action returns to neutral. Phogat leads 1-0 at the break. 

Second period: Phogat runs to the opposite side on a single leg takedown for a takedown then scores another two on an exposure for a 5-0 lead with 1:20 left. No scoring the remainder of the match. Phogat will wrestle in the gold medal final after a massive upset over Yui Susaki. 

WFS 50 kg: Sarah Hildebrandt (United States) over Otgonjargal Dolgorjav (Mongolia), 5-0

First period: Hildebrandt scorts the first takedown on a snap down and go-behind for a 2-0 lead in the first minute. Hildebrandt counters a shot and scores another takedown for a 4-0 lead with six seconds left. Hildebrandt gets another point on a caution and one for a 5-0 lead at the break. 

Second period: Dolgorjav nearly scores but Hildebrandt counters out and gets a stalemate with 2:06 left. Dolgorjav attempts an underarm spint but Hildebrrandt counters out and secures a 5-0 win and a spot in the gold medal finals. 

Medal Matchups

GR 77 kg Bronze - Zholaman Sharshenbekov (Kyrgyzstan) over Mehdi Mohsen Nejad (Iran), 3-1

First period: Passivity call against Nejad giving Sharshenbekov the first point and shot at par terre. He scores two on a turn for a 3-0 lead. 

Second period: Nejad gets on the board with a passivity point but doesn't get a turn from par terre. Sharsthenbekov wins 3-1 and wins a bronze medal. 

GR 77 kg Bronze - Se Ung Ri (North Korea) teched Raiber Rodriguez (Venezuela), 8-0

First period: Ri scores a takedown and three low guts for an 8-0 technical superiority and the bronze medal. 

GR 77 kg Gold - Kenchiro Fumita (Japan) over Liguo Cao (China), 4-1

First period: Fumita scores first on a passivity call and adds another two on a gut wrench for a 3-0 lead. 

Second period: Cao scores his first point on a passivity call with an opportunity on top but doesn't secure a turn. Fumita wins the gold with a 4-1 win after a lost challenge. 

GR 130 kg Bronze - Amin Mirzazadeh (Iran) over Sabah Shariati (Azerbaijan), 4-0

First period: Mirzazadeh scores on a passivity point then scores two more on a gut wrench for a 3-0 lead. 

Second period: Mirzazadeh gets another passivity point but doesn't get a turn for a 4-0 lead and eventually the win. 

GR 130 kg Bronze - Lingzhe Meng (China) over Abdellatif Mohamed (Egypt), 5-2

First period: Mohamed scores first on a step-out. Mohamed secures a second point on passivity. 

Second period: Meng snaps and scores a takedown for a 2-2 lead. Meng extended his lead to 3-2 on a step-out then scored a second takedown a few seconds later for a 5-2 lead and eventually the win. 

GR 130 kg Gold - Mijain Lopez (Cuba) over Yasmani Acosta (Chile), 6-0

First period: Lopez gets the first point and scores a low gut wrench for a 3-0 lead. 

Second period: Lopez scores another passivity point for a 4-0 lead. Lopez secures a takedown for a 6-0 lead with 44 seconds left. He holds on to that lead to win his fifth Olympic gold medal. 

WFS 68 kg Bronze - Buse Cavusoglu Tosun (Turkey) over Sol Gum Pak (North Korea), 4-2 

First period: Tosun strikes first with a step out in the first 20 seconds. Pak in a seatbelt but the referee stalemates the call and brings the action back to neutral. Pak attempts a slide by at the end of the period but time runs out.

Second period: Pak has a single-leg and finishes a takedown for a 2-1 lead. Tosun secures a step-out with a minute to go but Pak leads 2-2 on criteria. Both wrestlers in a whizzer position with 30 seconds left but the position was grounded. Tosun gets a takedown as time expires but North Korea doesn't challenge the call. 

WFS 68 kg Bronze - Nonoka Ozaki (Japan) over Blessing Oborududu (Nigeria), 3-0 

First period: Ozaki scores a takedown within the first minute for a 2-0 lead. 

Second period: Ozaki hits a low single but Oborududu stops the shot and the action goes back to neutral. Ozaki wins the bronze, 3-0.

WFS 68 kg Gold - Amit Elor (United States) over Meerim Zhumanazarova (Kyrgyzstan), 3-0

First period: Zhumanazarova goes on the activity clock with 1:29 left but Elor scores a takedown and picks up a penalty point for a 3-0 lead at the break. 

Second period: Elor spent most of the second period with an underhook and a two-on-one. Elor wins 3-0, becoming the youngest Olympic wrestling champion in US history at age 20 and the third American woman to an Olympic gold medal in wrestling.
