USA Wrestling Releases Rosters For Pre-Olympic Rankings Series Tournament

USA WRESTLING: Six 2024 U.S. Olympians headline an experienced and talented U.S. roster featuring all three Olympic disciplines at the Polyak Imre & Varga Janos Memorial, a UWW Senior Ranking Series event, set for BOK Sport Hall in Budapest, Hungary, June 6-9.

The six 2024 U.S. Olympians include three in Greco-Roman, Payton Jacobson (87 kg), Josef Rau (97 kg) and Adam Coon (130 kg), plus two in women’s freestyle, two-time Olympic medalist Helen Maroulis (57 kg) and 2020 Olympian Kayla Miracle (62 kg), as well as men’s freestyle World medalist Mason Parris (125 kg).

The USA has qualified 15 athletes to compete in the Olympic Games Paris 2024, which will be held August 5-11 at the Champ de Mars Arena in Paris. Traditionally, Olympic wrestlers will compete at least once after making the U.S. team and prior to their competition at the Olympic Games. Other members of the U.S. Olympic Team in wrestling are expected to compete in different international events in the upcoming weeks.

Maroulis was the first U.S. woman to win an Olympic gold medal in wrestling at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She then became the first U.S. woman to win two Olympic wrestling medals with her bronze medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Maroulis has also won three Senior World titles.

Miracle, a two-time World silver medalist, was a member of the 2020 Olympic Team in Tokyo. Among the 2024 Olympians competing in Hungary, other Senior World medalists are Coon, who won a 2018 World silver medal, and Parris, a 2023 World bronze medalist.

All three Greco-Roman entries are first-time Olympians, as is Parris. Of the six U.S. Olympians in the field, only Jacobson is wrestling in his first Senior-level U.S. team.

The team also features two past Olympians, 2016 U.S. Olympian in women’s freestyle, Haley Augello (53 kg) and 2020 Greco-Roman Olympian Alejandro Sancho (72 kg). Both placed second in the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, Augello at 53 kg and Sancho at 67 kg.

Of the 16 athletes on the U.S. team in Hungary, 14 have qualified as members of the 2024-25 National Team, which features the top four athletes in each weight class in each discipline.

Dalton Roberts, who competes at 60 kg in Greco-Roman, won the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, but did not qualify the USA to compete in the Olympic Games at the World Olympic Games Qualifier in Istanbul, Turkey. He is now ranked No. 1 on the National Team at his weight class, and has competed on two Senior World Teams.

Along with Augello and Sancho, athletes competing in the Polyak Imre & Varga Janos Memorial who placed second at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials and are ranked No. 2 on the national team include Spencer Woods (82 kg) in Greco-Roman and Audrey Jimenez (50 kg) in women’s freestyle. Woods competed at 87 kg in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

The competition will consist of four days of competition, with each weight class completed in one day. There will be men’s freestyle competition on Thursday and Friday, women’s freestyle on Friday and Saturday and Greco-Roman on Saturday and Sunday. The complete competition schedule is below.

There will be eight athletes seeded at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in each of the 18 Olympic weight classes. The Polyak Imre & Varga Janos Memorial will be the final event used as part of the seeding criteria for the Olympic Games.

The competition will be broadcast live in the United States by FloWrestling. Session times for each day are 10:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. local time. Budapest is six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time zone.
