Five Things You Should Know

We Are The Champions
Both teams won their respective divisions at the NWCA Multidivisional National Duals on Jan. 5-6 in Cedar Falls. Life won the NAIA title with a 25-21 win over Menlo in the finals and Iowa won the NCAA title with a 21-20 win over North Central in the finals.

It was the second National Duals title in three seasons for the Running Eagles and the first title for the Hawkeyes who are in their first season of competition.

Three’s Company
Life and Iowa also dual Missouri Valley (1-5) during this triangular at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa coach Clarissa Chun competed for Missouri Valley and made a national team while she attended school there.

Ashley Flavin is the head coach at Life while her husband, Christian, is the assistant. They recently had their first child, Kit, who makes most of the road trips. Wrestlers from the team take turns babysitting.

Life In The Hawkeye State
The Running Eagles should know Iowa fairly well after spending the end of last year and the beginning of this year in Iowa City and Cedar Falls. Life competed at the Soldier Salute on Dec. 29-30 in Coralville, then stayed in the state for the NWCA National Duals on Jan. 5-6 in Cedar Falls.

Grain Of Salt
Some of the above dual results are misleading. Both teams didn’t use full line-ups in spots, and there were a handful of occasions where both teams forfeited a weight. Be sure to watch the above video preview with All-American Lily Sherer to learn more about the dual.
