#2 Iowa Wrestling Takes 7 Matches Against #3 Nebraska In Dominant Dual Win

Most wrestling fans believed the dual between Iowa and Nebraska, the #2 and #3 ranked NCAA dual meet wrestling teams in the country, would be ultra-competitive. This might have even been Nebraska's change to notch its first victory over the Hawkeyes since 2006. In the end, Iowa took 7 of 10 matches and earned a 22-10 dual meet victory over the Huskers.

Perhaps the biggest performance for the Hawkeyes came from #25 Zach Glazier. The 197-pounder stepped on the mat as an underdog against 2023 Big Ten champ Silas Allred. A Glazier loss would have created a must-win situation for the Hawkeyes at heavyweight. Not only did Glazier win, he earned the Hawks' only bonus point of the night. His third-period takedown against Allred was his third takedown of the match, and it earned him an 11-2 major decision.

Following Glazier's dual-sealing victory, Iowa heavyweight Bradley Hill scored a late-match takedown against Nebraska's 'Polar Bear' Nash Hutmacher, a Husker football player who's returning to the mat for his first season since 2020 when he graduated from Chamberlain high school in South Dakota. Iowa could have used its two-sport freshman Ben Kueter in this bout but elected to go with Hill who notched a 4-1 victory over Hutmacher.

Another critical performance for Iowa came at 157 lbs where #2 Jared Franek took on #3 Peyton Robb. Franek and Robb split matches a year ago. In the third period, Franek trailed 4-2, but he secured a takedown with 40 seconds to go and was able to ride Robb for the victory.

Nebraska competed hard throughout the dual. At 133 lbs, #32 Jake Van Dee avenged a previous loss to #9 Brody Teske. The Erie Cathedral Prep, PA product controlled his bout for a 10-4 decision over Iowa's four-time state champion.

The Iowa vs Nebraska dual was full of ups and downs, but ultimately, the Hawkeyes doubled the Huskers' points in a dual that felt much more competitive than the team score might indicate
