After giving up an early lead to North Carolina freshman Danny Nini, Iowa State freshman Cody Chittum pulled off a comeback to advance to the round of 16. Chittum's victory sets up a match in the next round with Stanford sophomore Daniel Cardenas, the #9 ranked wrestler in the country.

Chittum and Cardenas are the 11 and 6 seed respectively in a bracket at 157 lbs that's widely considered to be the deepest in the entire Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.

The closest thing college wrestling fans will get to an NCAA Wrestling Tournament preview will come about four months earlier as teams flock to Las Vegas for the premier tournament of the regular season.

The Cliff Keen Las Vegas Wrestling Invitational will feature 15 of FloWrestling’s preseason top-25 teams, including No. 3 Virginia Tech, as well as 10 of the top-20 Pound-For-Pound Wrestlers in the country. Former and current NCAA champions such as David Carr and Vito Arujau as well as multiple 2023 NCAA All-Americans will compete at the event.

Nebraska returns as the defending Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational Champion as they beat out N.C. State by 10 points in 2022.

This year the Cornhuskers are ranked No.6 in the preseason poll, the third-highest ranked team in the field behind only Virginia Tech and Cornell. The Hokies are hoping to improve on last year’s showing, which then finished 11th.
