Aneesah Morrow Scores 37 As LSU WBB Survives Test Vs. Virginia WBB

The LSU Women’s Basketball team faced its biggest challenge since star Angel Reese has been away from the team as No. 7 LSU (7-1) closed out its Women’s Cayman Islands Classic slate with Virginia (5-2).

It turns out that having another of college basketball’s biggest stars and one of its best transfers is one way to overcome losing the 2023 Final Four Most Outstanding Player.

In fact, it was Reese's replacement in the lineup that starred in the game. Aneesah Morrow, who transferred from DePaul after averaging 25.7 points last season, scored 37 points as LSU beat Virginia 76-73 in John Gray Gymnasium at George Town, Grand Cayman Islands.

Morrow, who scored 28 against Niagara on Nov. 24, scored the most points of the Women's Cayman Islands Classic so far and also grabbed 16 rebounds. Morrow entered the starting lineup when Reese's absence began and has scored 92 points in the four games.

Hailey Van Lith, a transfer from Louisville who led the Cardinals to the 2022 Final Four, had adjusted her role early in the season to be less of a scorer. But with the extra firepower to the lineup needed, the senior has answered. She scored 20 points against Niagara and added 12 against the Cavaliers.

A day after routing Tulane 81-59, the Virginia Women’s Basketball team pushed LSU the whole way. The Cavaliers were led by Paris Clark who scored 19 points.
