Iowa Women Defeat East Stroudsburg 43-1

Iowa won its first dual in program history with seven techs and three falls.

Iowa Women Defeat East Stroudsburg 43-1

Iowa flexed its muscles against on Saturday, November 4 during the first dual in program history. The Hawkeyes defeated the Warriors 43-1 in a dual that lasted less than 40 minutes. 

East Stroudsburg scored its lone team point when Zoe Gress earned a takedown against Nanea Estrella, which meant four points for Iowa and one for ESU. The Hawkeyes earned seven techs and three falls in 10 contested matches. 

This wasn't Iowa's full line-up, either. Several of the team's best wrestlers were sidelined for various reasons, so this won't be the line-up used at the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships. 

101 pounds: Sterling Dias (Iowa) teched Olivia Klein (ESU), 10-0

Dias scores first with a head shuck and a gut wrench for a 4-0 lead. Dias adds another takedown but can't get a turn but picks up another takedown for an 8-0 lead. Dias finishes the match with a go-behind and a 10-0 tech.

109 pounds: Ava Bayless (Iowa) teched Madi Mansmann (ESU), 10-0

Bayless gets a takedown and turn then another takedown for a 6-0 lead. Bayless secures a four-point takedown for a 10-0 tech.

Iowa 8, ESU 0

116 pounds: Brianna Gonzalez (Iowa) fall Emily Klein (ESU)

Gonzalez hits a four-point throw and gets the fall in less than a minute.

Iowa 13, ESU 0

123 pounds: Felicity Taylor (Iowa) teched Mia Macaluso (ESU), 10-0

Taylor hits a four-point carry then gets three turns for a 10-0 tech.

Iowa 17, ESU 0

130 pounds: Emily Frost (Iowa) teched Gianna Amendola (ESU), 10-0

Frost secures a takedown and four turns for a 10-0 tech.

Iowa 21, ESU 0

136 pounds: Nanea Estrella (Iowa) teched Zoe Gress (ESU), 13-2

Estrella scores two on a cradle for a 2-0 lead. Estrella picks up a second takedown on a go-behind. A two and two exchange followed by a reversal for Estrella makes the score 7-2 at the end of the first period. 

Estrella gets the first points in the second period with a go-behind for a 9-2 lead. Estrella scores a two-point exposure on a half for an 11-2 lead. Estrella scores two more on a slide by for a 13-2 tech.

Iowa 25, ESU 1

143 pounds: Ella Schmit (Iowa) teched Jayla Hahn (ESU), 11-0

Schmit strikes first with a go-behind for a 2-0 lead with 2:16 remaining. Hahn is in deep on a shot but a stalemate is called and they are back on their feet. Hahn hits another head to the inside shot but Schmit counters for a takedown and a 4-0 lead. Hahn shoots but gets extended but the action goes out of bounds, which yields a step out for Schmit and a 5-0 lead at the break. 

Schmit scores on a go-behind for a 7-0 lead with 2:07 remaining. Schmit scores another go-behind for a 9-0 lead. Schmit reaches for a double and ends the match with a takedown and tech, 11-0.

Iowa 29, ESU 1

155 pounds: Reese Larramendy (Iowa) teched Paityn DeLong (ESU), 10-0

Larramendy secures a takedown and two turns for a 6-0 lead. Another go-behind makes it 8-0. Larramendy adds another turn for a 10-0 tech.

Iowa 33, ESU 1

170 pounds: Haley Ward (Iowa) fall Jade Huerta (ESU)

Ward scores two on a go-behind for a 2-0 lead. She locks up a lace for two more then transitions to a bundle for two exposure and eventually a fall. 

Iowa 38, ESU 1

191 pounds: Alivia White (Iowa) fall Ariel Ofri-Akman (ESU)

An errant shot by Ofri-Akman leads to a pancake and a fall for White.
