Austin Gomez Enters Transfer Portal
Austin Gomez Enters Transfer Portal
Austin Gomez could be making his return to the college wrestling mat.
After officially announcing he would not be applying for a medical redshirt and be done with college wrestling in May, Austin Gomez has entered the transfer portal. Gomez never retired from the sport of wrestling, just NCAA wrestling. After graduating from Wisconsin in the spring, he moved to Ann Arbor where he has been training with the Cliff Keen Wrestling Club. Gomez represented Mexico at the 2023 World Championships.
Gomez wrestled collegiately at Iowa State for the first four years of his career and Wisconsin the remaining two. At Iowa State, he only competed attached for one season where he finished in the round of twelve at 133 lbs. His last two years in Ames were plagued by injury. In 2022 he earned All-American honors when he placed 4th at 149 lb.
If Gomez returns to collegiate wrestling, he will have to be approved for a medical redshirt in the 2020 season that he did not compete a match in.
