2022 U17 world silver medalist Valerie Hamilton will defend her #1 ranking against 2023 Junior National champ Kaidance Gerg at 2023's Who's Number One.
Hamilton, who will be a senior at El Paso-Gridley High School in Illinois, is both a U17 world medalist and a veteran of high school wrestling's premier event, having participated in 2022's Who's Number One, where she dropped a match to Janida Garcia. Since that match Hamilton has won USA Wrestling's prestigious Preseason Nationals and placed in several other prominent tournaments. She was also runner-up to Sydney Perry at the 2023 Illinois state championship, however, that was up in the 144-pound division.
Watch Hamilton win in the semifinals of the 2022 U17 World Championships:

Hamilton will defend her number one ranking against Kaidance Gerg, who hails from Eatonville, Washington in the wrestling-rich Pacific Northwest. Gerg didn't place at the world team trials held at Women's Nationals but then powered her way to a third-place finish at the loaded Girls High School Showcase 132-pound bracket held at the US Open.
Gerg then wrestled her way into Who's Number One by winning a stacked Fargo bracket that included wins over #5 Netavia Wickson and #6 Gretchen Donnally.
Watch Gerg win a stop sign in the Fargo Junior 138-pound finals:

Gerg will have her sights set on Hamilton, who will be making the relatively short drive from Gridley, Illinois to Kenosha, Wisconsin for a bout with the number one ranking on the line.
