National Wrestling Champion Transfers To Iowa
Former Augsburg national champion Marlynne Deede will compete for the Hawkeyes next season.
The Iowa women’s wrestling team keeps adding to its already impressive roster. This time, it’s an established college wrestling star.
Marlynne Deede, a four-time All-American and 2023 NCWWC (NCAA) champion for Augsburg, will be a Hawkeye next season. She still has a COVID year, which she will take in Iowa City.
“I’m graduating this year and I had a moment of reflection,” Deede said. “I had to think about my priorities and where I want to be. There are positives and negatives with both schools, but Iowa made more sense for me to train and continue my education.
“It was a long process with weeks and weeks of gathering information. I didn't take this lightly. I’ve grown and developed at Augsburg and will still call it home.”
Deede will graduate at the end of May and move to Iowa City shortly thereafter. She will compete for Iowa at 155 pounds and continue training with the Hawkeye Wrestling Club.
The Springville, Utah, native won this year’s National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships after placing third the previous two seasons and sixth as a freshman.
Marlynne Deede won the 2023 National Collegiate Wrestling Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
