The United States determined its team for the upcoming U23 World Championships in all three wrestling styles this weekend. The trials were held in Rochester, Minnesota, and the winners earned their spots to represent America in Bydgoszcz, Poland, during Thanksgiving week on Nov. 21-26, when they will face off with the best wrestlers under the age of 23 that the world has to offer.

The men's freestyle weights at the U.S. trials were packed with former, current, and future NCAA stars. In one of the most hyped weight classes, junior-level world champion Daton Fix took out Nathan Tomasello in two straight finals matches. Fix won a junior-level world championship earlier this year and will now look to add another gold medal to his collection. It might not be long before Oklahoma State true freshman makes a senior team, as Tomasello was second at the USA's senior world team trials at 57kg back in June.



Two junior silver medalists made the men's freestyle team at the next two weights. Minnesota sophomore Mitch McKee placed second earlier this year at Junior Worlds and Ohio State's Joey McKenna took second in 2014.

Rutgers senior Richie Lewis took out three NCAA All-Americans on his way to winning the 70kg division. Illinois redshirt senior Isaiah Martinez only had one other opponent in his bracket, but it was the highly regarded Chance Marsteller, whom Martinez dispatched in two straight matches to earn the spot at 74kg.

Iowa graduate Sammy Brooks won a loaded 86kg that included NCAA champion Myles Martin and NCAA finalist Brett Pfarr. At 97kg, it was Virginia Tech graduate Ty Walz earning a spot on the team. Meanwhile, Michael Kroells will rejoin his former Golden Gophers teammate McKee after winning the 125kg division.
