48kg - Victoria Anthony vs Miran Cheon (KOR)

1st period: Not wasting any time here, Anthony is one of the first four matches of the day. And she goes right to work! Classic Anthony inside trip, three guts. My goodness, Anthony came to party. The tech came in just 28 seconds. Meanwhile, one mat over, her potential quarterfinal opponent Yui Susaki (JPN) got a tech in 1:09. Anthony's second round opponent will be Vinesh Phogat. She is a 5x Asian medalist, two silvers and three bronzes. She is unranked and wrestling in her fourth world championships.

One of the big stories of yesterday was Nigeria, who starts today in fourth place. Their team trophy chances just took a hit as their 48kg wrestler lost to Bulgaria. Every match so far has been either a tech or a pin.

53kg - Haley Augello vs Thi Hang Vu (VIE)

1st period: Almost right off the whistle Augello runs through a double for 2. Perfectly timed go behind off a VIE shot, and now a couple of gut wrenches to go up 8-0. Ballgame, VIE lands on her back on a shot. Two techs for Team USA so far. Really phenomenal chain wrestling by Haley in that match.

Wow, No. 1 vs No. 2 in the world right now on Mat B. Risako Kawai (JPN) taking on Lyubov Ovcharova (RUS). The Russian was up 2-0 early and back on their feet. Kawai in on a shot again, and man Ovcharova just let out a blood curdling scream. She is writhing in clear pain on the mat. Certainly hope Ovcharova is ok, never want to see someone go down like that. Also puts Japan in a much better position in the team race.

Japan is extremely passionate about their women's wrestling. They are right behind us on press row and very loud when their girls are up. Another win for Japan as Mayu Mukaida, a 5x age level world champ. The French fans are back in full force today like they were yesterday. Unfortunately for those fans, she got thrown for 4 at the buzzer and lost to China.

Augello's next opponent will be Lannuan Luo (CHN), who beat Tatiana Debien (FRA) 8-6. That is the only result we have for her, in her life. Nice win for Korea over Belarus, helps America in the team race. Belarus led America by one point heading into this morning. Another dominant performance by Yui Susaki (JPN), the 48kg mega star who skipped juniors and went straight to dominating the senior level. 48kg quarters are slowly starting to be set.

48kg - Victoria Anthony vs Vinesh Phogat (IND)

1st period: India right away trying to take space and collar tie to slow Vicki down. Ref calls attention for tapping the forehead. Phogat stops the inside trip and responds with a double for 2. Anthony in on a shot but stalemated. Anthony level changing, looking for holes and angles. Phogat looks bigger and Anthony gets hit for passive. Ref against doesn't like Vicki's head taps. Locked up in a collar tie and stalemated. India has no interest in shooting, just waiting for mistakes. Front head position and people were in the way but Phogat gets a takedown, 4-0 at the break.

2nd period: Anthony was ranked No. 5 in the world heading into these world championships. Vicki goes head snap to ankle pick across to a double, no turns though. Man! Vicki just cartwheeled out of a shot. PANCAKE! Vicki sticks Phogat on her back. They aren't even raising their hand to look for the fall. HUGE PIN for Vicki! Let's go America, she'll have Susaki next in the quarters.

53kg - Haley Auello vs Lannuan Luo (CHN)

1st period: Another American up straight away. Right off the bat, Haley shoots and drives her out for one. Shot by china cleared by Haley. Augello tries a slideby, HN hit for passive. Luo will go on the clock now. Shot fought off by China but Haley takes a 2-0 lead after the shot clock point.

2nd period: Haley hustles back to the center. She's frustrating Luo with her ties right now. Digging underhooks and CHN once again hit for passive. Another shot clock point and it's 3-0 Augello now. Front headlock for Augello. Slow second period. Augello great timed sprawl. Haley is into the quarters, will have Roksana ZASINA (POL).

48kg quarters are set: ARG vs PRK and JPN vs USA up top, CAN vs ROU and POL vs TUR down bottom. Going to start trying to give team score updates. Orshush of Russia is looking great today, and is grooving as she walks off the mat. Has a little bop to her heading into the tunnel. 53kg quarters are set: GRE vs BLR and IND vs ROU up top, JPN vs RUS and USA vs POL down the bottom.

60kg - Alli Ragan vs Gabriella Sleisz (HUN)

1st period: Alli coming out with a headgear on. Two-on-one right off the bat, 30 seconds in Sleisz seems hesitant. Alli trying to level change and blue passive likely coming soon against HUN. HEADLOCK baby! Sleisz doing a good job fighting it as they head into the zone, 2-0 lead. Low lingle for Ragan and she finishes for a 4-0 lead with seconds left.

2nd period: Alli first one back to center. Immediately starts hand fighting and level changing. No shots here a minute in. Low level double, trying to come out the back but stalemated. Despite Alli just shooting, passive offered. Alli responds with a takedown. Another one and it's 8-0 now in the final minute. Blocked a shot, go behind tech fall. Into the quarters!

60kg quarters are set: USA vs GER and VIE vs LAT up top, SWE vs ROU and JPN vs CAN down bottom.

69kg - Tamyra Mensah (USA) vs Alla Belinskaya (UKR)

1st period: Mensah up 2-0 before I even look up. Mensah got put to her back momentarily, but a 2 and 2 makes it 4-2 Mensah. Takedown and two laces and up 10-2. Sorry for lack of updates, far mat is hard to see from our angle on press row. Takedown and all four Americans are in the quarterfinals!

This Dosho/Larroque match is INTENSE! The Olympic champ against the biggest star in French wrestling. Crowd erupted after a Larroque takedown put her in the lead, but Dosho with the stepout to go back on top on criteria. Dosho wins 3-3. Very strong likelihood Larroque gets pulled back for a bronze.

48kg - Victoria Anthony vs Yui Susaki (JPN)

1st period: Vicki taking on the 3x Cadet world champ, who earlier this year won Yarygin, Klippan and an Asian championship. Win here would be worth six points and give USA a momentary lead in the team race. Chris Pendleton in her corner. Single leg for Susaki, Vicki goes merkle for the stalemate. Vicki on the clock now. Front head position and just hanging out. Right as she gave up the shot clock point, Susaki ran through the body to make it 3-0. Single for Susaki, Vicki trying to split the hands. Time runs out, 3-0 at the break.

2nd period: Vicki tries to go over the top and runs right into a shot, laced up and match is over. Japan up to 27 points in the team race. Turkey has moved into second with 22 team points.

53kg - Haley Augello vs Roksana Zasina (POL)

1st period: Most recently, the 29-year-old Zasina won the Poland Open. She won a bronze medal up at 55kg at last year's European championships. Stopped early on for a hard club. Augello in on a shot, couldn't see what happened but fought off into a takedown and turn, trailing 4-0 now. Pace has slowed down quite a bit in this match.

2nd period: Another single by Augello, heavy hips counter by POL. Blood time for Augello, coming out of her nose. Another stoppage. Ref finally offers passive, but Haley's single is countered once again. And America is on the board, caution+2 confirmed as Haley drover her out of bounds. Haley shoots off the whistle and immediately countered. Haley loses, Japan extends their team lead and Belarus retakes control of second.

60kg - Alli Ragan vs Luisa Niemesch (GER)

1st period: Beautiful low single and Ragan trying to circle around. Good rubber knee by Niemesch and back up to their feet. Germany is on the clock. Alli dances out of the zone and goes up 1-0.

2nd period: Alli again in on the shot, that rubber knee from Germany is incredible. Germany on the clock again. Niemesch in on the shot, but shot clock runs out and Alli goes up 2-0. Out of bounds and no points for Germany. Third time's the charm on that single, quick finish and 4-0 now. Well timed sprawl, butt drag attempt but back on their feet. For the third time in her career, Ragan will wrestle for a world medal. She will have world No. 4 Anastasija Grigorjeva (LAT), a 2014 bronze medalist.

69kg - Tamyra Mensah vs Yue Han (CHN)

1st period: Mesah steps to the mat in the red singlet. Mensah shoots a single and gets in deep but it gets blown dead as she gets stuck underneath. Mensah took two shots to none but got pu on the clock, shoots a single leg but can't finish and it's 1-0 China. Another shot from Mensah and China comes out on top after a little struggle. It's 3-0 China at the break.

2nd period: Mensah continues to be offensive but can't earn a takedown. Again gets to the leg and China comes out on top in a scramble. She leads 5-0. Another shot from Mensah but she meets the hips and is stopped. Tamrya in deep yet again but once again she can't finish, stingy defense from her oponent. Once again she shoots and this time she scares but it's too little too late. Final score is 5-2, Mensah falls.

Victoria Anthony has been pulled back into repechage, she will wrestle the winner of Peru vs France. The 48kg finals will be Yui Susaki (JPN) vs Emilia Vuc (ROU). Haley Augello has been eliminated from repechage, Bader will go grab an interview with her. It is Japan vs Belarus in the 53kg finals.

60kg - Alli Ragan vs Anastasija GRIGORJEVA (LAT)

1st period: World no. 4 here for the opportunity to wrestle in a world final. Not a lot of action in the first period, only point on a stepout so far. Ragan with a takedown to go up 2-1.

2nd period: Back to the middle, and another stepout to make it 2-2 but Ragan leading on criteria. WOW! Houdini act there as Ragan just slips out of a takedown on the mat. Alli going on the shot clock now. Grigorjeva with another stepout, up 3-2. Just when it looks like all hope is lost the headclock from hell came and BOOM, she's back in the world finals. Way to go Alli Ragan. She will wrestle last year's 63kg Olympic gold medalist Risako Kawai (JPN).

48kg - Victoria Anthony vs Julie SABATIE (FRA)

1st period: Passive against FRA. Sabatie goes on the clock. Nice! Shot clock point, then duck under into a gut on her feet and another gut to go up 7-0.

2nd period: Hard shot fought off by Vicki, but France right back in. Vicki takes her to her back! She has France on her back. The pin is called and Anthony will wrestle for bronze!

48kg Bronze Medal Match - Victoria Anthony vs Sonhyang Kim (PRK)

1st period: Vicki has a tough competitor from North Korea. Both wrestlers keep their distance for the first minute. We pause as North Korea requires injury time for something on her face. Kim goes on the shot clock, and converts a low leg attack for two just as the shot clock was expiring. 2-0 in favor of North Korea. Kim gets in on a single leg shot and muscles her way to a push out. The period ends with Kim leading Anthony 3-0.

2nd period: Vicki goes for her patented inside trip but Kim manages to step out of it. Kim then blast doubles Anthony for a take down, and a quick gut wrench. Too much power for Vicki and it's 7-0 North Korea. Anthony finally gets on the board with a step out, 7-1 now. Kim in deep on a shot, converts and laces to complete the tech. 11-1 is the final, Anthony falls just short of a medal.

60kg Gold Medal Match - Alli Ragan vs Risako Kawai (JPN)

1st period: Alli and her formidable Japanese opponent make their way to the center for the mat, and they're off! Double leg takedown for Kawai and it's 2-0. Great leg lace defense by Ragan in par terre and they go back up to their feet, still 2-0. Another double from Kawai and after a mini-scramble she converts. It's 4-0 in favor of Japan as they go back to their feet. That's the way the period will end as they go to their corners.

2nd period: Another double leg by Kawai but Ragan defends. Yet another double and this time Kawai converts at the edge of the mat. 6 point hole for Ragan with 2 minutes to go. Ragan goes on the clock. She's in on a shot but can't pick up the leg. They restart and the clock expires and it's 7-0 for Kawai with a minute to go. Kawai grabs a single, runs the pike, then turks the leg for a 2 and 2 to secure the tech-fall, 11-0 is the final. Ragan settles for silver.
