Biggest Upsets Of The Cadet And University Nationals First Session
Hundreds of wrestlers filled up some monster brackets at the Cadet and University Freestyle Nationals at the Stile Athletics Field House in Akron, Ohio.

We've only made it through to the round of 16 for the university weights and to the quarterfinals of the cadets, but we've already seen some surprising results. We recap some of the wild upsets from Saturday's first session below.

Cadets 58kg
Sincere Bailey, Harvery Twisters DEC Beau Bartlett, Sunkist Kids/Monster Garage 10-5

Beau Bartlett starts for Wyoming Seminary, one of the premier high school programs in the nation, and is the fourth ranked wrestler at 120 pounds. Sincere Bailey of the Harvey Twister was not intimidated by any of that, winning a heated battled in the round of 32 and sending Bartlett to the consolation round earlier than expected.

Cadet 63kg
Fidel Mayora, Izzy Style Wrestling DEC Malcolm Robinson, Blairstown Wrestling Club 9-3

Malcolm Robinson starts for prep powerhouse Blair Academy and is the eighth ranked wrestler at 138. Unranked Fidel Mayora was unfazed by those accolades and fearlessly took it to Robinson, beating the 2016 Beast of the East champ in the round of 64.

University 70kg
Troy Heilmann, Tar Heel Wrestling Club DEC Geordan Martinez, OKST/Cowboy Wrestling Club 15-8

Troy Heilmann qualified for two NCAA tournaments but never climbed the podium steps during his tenure as a North Carolina Tarheel. Geordan Martinez, on the other hand, is an All-American, and many are expecting him to step into the Oklahoma State lineup next year and fill in for the departing Anthony Collica. Martinez showed off some slick moves in the first period but Heilmann kept the pressure on and wore Martinez out, bouncing the Cowboy into the consolation match in the round of 128.

Jacobe Smith, CWC/TMWC DEC Daniel Lewis, Missouri Wrestling Foundation 17-16

Daniel Lewis earned the No. 1 seed in the 80kg bracket based on a sterling track record and two NCAA All-Amercian honors. Jacobe Smith is a two-time national champion, but only at the junior college level, and thus drew the No. 1 seed in the the round of 32. Smith showed why he will be a force at the D1 level next year by surviving a wild back-and-forth match against Lewis and advanced to the around 32.

Matt Voss, George Mason DEC Tanner Hall, Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club16-12

Tanner Hall tore through the 2017 NCAA tournament, placing third and helping pace the young Sun Devils to 14th place tea finish. Matt Voss wrestles for the George Mason Patriots, who tied for 62nd place at the NCAAs with 0.5 team points. But it was Voss who outlasted Hall in the first round of the heavyweight division, putting Hall in danger of going 0-2 at the University Nationals.
