The first session of the 2017 NCAA tournament has been completed, so we wanted to run through the 10 best upsets so far. We defined an "upset" as a win by an unseeded guy over a guy seeded in the top 12 of his bracket.

#1 174lbs Jake Residori (SIUE) 6-5 over Kyle Crutchmer (Oklahoma St)

All American Kyle Crutchmer goes down to SIUE's Jake Residori 6-5! MASSIVE team score implications. This is Residori's second win of the day, heaving beaten Oklahoma's Matt Reed in the pigtails. Residori now has 10 seed Zac Brunson of Illinois in his second match.

#2 174lbs Jadaen Bernstein (Navy) 7-3 over Casey Kent (Penn)

Navy looking for their second straight podium finish at 174 is helped by this win over returning AA Kent, who was seeded 12th coming in. Bernstein faces off with true freshman Mark Hall this evening.

#3 157lbs Paul Fox (Stanford) 8-4 over Clayton Ream (North Dakota State)

Ream was the highest seed to go down in round one, losing to the Stanford redshirt freshman who needed a wildcard to get in to the tournament. Fox can knock off another seeded wrestler next in 11 seed Russell Parsons of Army.

#4 141lbs Johnathan Hathaway (Oregon State) Fall 3:28 over Joseph Ward (North Carolina)

One of three upsets for Oregon State over seeded wrestlers included this pin by Hathaway, who stuck returning AA Ward with an armbar. Hathaway's next opponent is returning finalist Bryce Meredith of Wyoming.

#5 149lbs Alex Kocer (South Dakota State) 6-5 over Patricio Lugo (Edinboro)

After performing under his seed at Big 12s, Kocer was rewarded with Lugo first round. SDSU coach Chris Bono mobbed the fifth year senior after holding on to to the decision victory. Kocer's second round foe Justin Oliver picked up a pin in round one.

#6 197lbs Daniel Chaid (North Carolina) 10-5 over Nate Rotert (South Dakota State)

Despite battling an injured ankle, Rotert wounded up seeded ninth, just outside of placing. He now has a much tougher road to do so after Chaid controlled this one. Chaid's follow up will be against 8 seed Ryan Wolfe of Rider.

#7 149lbs Andrew Crone (Wisconsin) 8-5 over Sam Speno (NC State)

What starts to stand out about these upsets is that only one was a fall, so none can be characterized as someone "getting caught and pinned." Crone will see last year's finalist Brandon Sorensen tonight.

#8 149lbs Joey Delgado (Oregon State) 6-5 over Davion Jeffries (Oklahoma)

Jeffries was the cardiac kid at Big 12s, but his luck ran out today and was unable to mount a comeback in yet another upset win for OSU. Delgado will try to continue the Oregon State upset bonanza against 6 seed Solomon Chishko of Virginia Tech.

#9 157lbs May Bethea (Pennsylvania) 3-2 over Clark Glass (Oklahoma)

Glass's biggest win this year was over Chandler Rogers up at 165, he will now get a crack at Rogers' teammate Joseph Smith in the second round tonight. 

#10 157lbs Bryant Clagon (Rider) 4-2 over Jake Short (Minnesota)

BJ Clagon is always good for a crazy match, and will follow up this win over the CKLV champ Short with 9 seed Josh Shields of Arizona State.
