The Race For The Powerade OW
If someone told me there was a tournament with three world champions registered this week, I'd ask where it is located in Russia. But you have to look no further than the 2016 Powerade in western Pennsylvania on Dec. 29-30.
If someone told me there was a tournament with three world champions registered this week, I'd ask where it is located in Russia. But you have to look no further than the 2016 Powerade in western Pennsylvania on Thursday, Dec. 29, and Friday, Dec. 30. This year's field boasts three current and former age-level world champions alongside a veritable who's who of the national high school elite. Whoever comes out of this year's Powerade with the OW trophy will have put together a seriously impressive performance, but who will it be?
Some weight classes are deeper than others, so that could play a role in deciding the most outstanding wrestler. The 152-pound weight class is be the front-runner in the depth department -- three of the country's top six wrestlers will be competing.
Another serious factor in who gets OW could be a breakout performance in which someone out-wrestles his seed. The bracket at 195lbs is just waiting to be busted with most of the top eight seeds having a legitimate shot to reach the podium. If you're looking for the most dominant performance, check out 126 and Spencer Lee. Below is a list of the most likely candidates for OW.
#5 Beau Bartlett (Wyoming Seminary, PA)
#3 Jarod Verkleeren, 2014 world champion (Hempfield, PA)
#4 Shane Griffith (Bergen Catholic, NJ)
#6 Stephan Glasgow (Bound Brook, NJ)
#6 Jake Woodley (North Allegheny, PA)
#19 Cole Nye (Bishop McDevitt, PA)
