We haven't seen #2 Dylan Palacio of Cornell yet, but the Big Red All American will be starting the new year with a big test. The Long Island native will be wrestling January 1st and 2nd at the Southern Scuffle.

Though Palacio hasn't donned the red Cornell singlet yet, he hasn't been completely absent from the wrestling mat. In October, Palacio competed at the University World Championships for Uruguay.

Palacio will be put to the test right away with #3 Joseph Smith looking for some revenge. Smith, who competed in his first match back against Taylor Simaz, lost to Palacio twice in both the dual and at NCAA's last year.

Missouri's Joey Lavallee has also been wrestling at a very high level. He's very fundamental and a solid scrambler. He could pose a tough match up for Palacio as well. Every year we see wrestlers come in with high rankings but leave the Scuffle with their rankings much lower. Just last year, Cornell's Brian Realbuto came in ranked 1st at 174. He placed 6th.

Palacio is known for a unique style both in terms of wrestling skills (ride him at your own peril) and his brash style and showmanship. His return will represent one of the biggest storylines for the entire tournament.

Here are some of the top contenders at 157 pounds.

157 Contenders

#2 Dylan Palacio, Cornell
#3 Joseph Smith, Oklahoma State
#6 Joey Lavallee, Missouri
#7 Jake Short, Minnesota
#13 May Bethea, Penn
#15 Jordan Kutler, Lehigh
#20 Andrew Atkinson, Virginia
