Brackets & Upcoming Bouts

Medal Matches: The last match of the Olympics comes down to Kyle Snyder and Khetag Gazyumov for the gold medal. Little smile on Snyder's face, wearing Buckeye red singlet. Moving his feet, level changing, faking. Quick shot but back out. Snyder trying to dig inside, moving Gaz around. And we have our passive against Gaz at 0:52. Snyder stops the first leg attack from Gazyumov. Passive now against Snyder at 1:26. Great single for Snyder, comes up and gets the stepout to lead 1-0. Snyder working inside, shot fought off by Gaz. Snyder wins the period 1-0, each have a passive. Kyle doing a great job staying inside on the ties, now Gaz working an underhook. The Azeri on the clock at 3:32. Snyder fights off a shot. 2-0 Kyle now with the clock out, two minutes left. Re-attaack but nothing. Still locked up head to head. Kyle on the clock now 4:36. No score, 2-1 with 53 left. Down block for Snyder and again. KYLE SNYDER IS OLYMPIC CHAMPION!!! THE YOUNGEST WORLD CHAMP IN AMERICAN HISTORY IS NOW THE YOUNGEST OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST IN US HISTORY.

Second bronze medal here, Andriitsev (UKR) vs Ibragimov (UZB). A minute in here and we're at 2-2. No action since then, but Ibragimov picks up a shot clock point to lead 3-2 at the break. Very athletic line dancing from Andriitsev, but Ibragimov answers with his own takedown on the edge. Wow, the run of bronze medals for Ukraine at 97kg has come to an end.

So uh, back to wrestling. Elizbar Odikadze (GEO) vs Albert Saritov (ROU) for bronze. What a pretty cutback for Saritov to take a 4-0 lead. Takedown and Saritov leads 6-0 at the break. 8-0 lead now after Saritov stops the shot and hits go behind. Saritov comes out of hibernation and wins a bronze with his 10-0 tech over Odikadze.

Gold Medal Match, and Soslan Ramonov gets a stepout on Toghrul Asgarov early. Ramonov picks up the leg and drives Asgarov across the mat for 4. Good grief, he hits a slideby and drops Asgarov to his back. Ramonov finishes the match with a counter blast double and that's it. He avenges the late Besik Kudukhov and wins one for Ossetia. He wraps himself in an Ossetian flag and is the Olympic gold medalist at 65kg. Kudukhov was of Ossetian descent and lost to Asgarov in the 2012 Olympic finals. What an incredible run for Ramonov. Gold in 2014 with three pins and two techs, and then bronze in 2015 after getting stepped over by Navruzov. Avenges that with a dominant 18-7 semis win over Navruzov today and then steamrolls Olympic gold medalist Asgarov 11-0 in under two minutes in the finals.

Time for Frank! Frankie C vs Frankie M for Olympic bronze. A minute in and Chamizo hit for passive, pretty physical when they engage. Molinaro hit for passive now, someone going on the clock soon. Molinaro on the clock now. Shot attempt for Molinaro, but no points and Chamizo takes the lead. Low single for Molinaro! Lifts and drops him, finishes off in the quadpod. Keeps wrestling and leads 2-1 at the break. Frank snakes his way out of a Chamizo single and they're back in a scramble. Front head pinch and stalemated, somehow no points there. Frank goes on the clock again, Chamizo is on the offensive. Shot clock point for Chamizo, but Molinaro leads on criteria. Quick single and Chamizo leads 4-2 with a minute left. Frank gets in with short time, and gets both ankles but can't finish on the edge. Heck of a run for Frank Molinaro, 5th place at the Olympics.

Other 65kg bronze is Navruzov vs Ganzorig. The Mongolian gets the first takedown! Navruzov with the slick takedown, re-directs him to the mat and goes up on criteria. Dang, butt drag for Ganzorig, grabs the singlet but loses control and Navruzov comes around for two as time runs out. Wild scramble to start the second, Navruzov in a quad pod, but Ganzorig lifts him up by the crotch to ground him and get two. Navruzov takes the lead! Oh my, scrambles on scrambles! Ganzorig nearly steps out, but with continuation, fights off, gets lifted and comes out on top for the two! Ganzorig leads on criteria. That'll do it. Ganzorig parties on him for the last five seconds and wins bronze for the third time. NOOOO! This is absurd. They give Navruzov a point saying he fled the hold. What a turn of events. I don't even know how to describe the protest occurring on the mat right now. The Mongolian coaches almost fully disrobed in protest.

Repechage: Pan Am battle here, Valdes Tobier (CUB) vs Haislan Garcia (CAN), winner gets Ganzorig in the next repechage match. First passive goes against Garcia at 0:46. Tobier up 1-0 on a shot clock point. Body lock here for Tobier, but Garcia goes headlock! Only one for a correct throw though and then Tobier immediately reveres it. Garcia on the clock again, and Tobier goes up 3-1 with 80 seconds left. Great single by Garcia on Tobier's right, but wow called dead for potentially dangerous. Beautiful hi0c from Garcia, into an extnded quadpod. Tobier fighting hard here but Garcia grounds him! The Canadian-Cuban Garcia moves on 3-3, avenging a 6-0 semis loss to Tobier from the Pan Am qualifier.

Moving up to 97kg now, two-time world champ Reza Yazdani of Iran against Radoslaw Baran of Poland, winner gets Mamed Ibragimov of Uzbekistan. Passive against Baran at 0:45. Yazdani tries to choke out Baran, but still gets the shot clock pt and goes up 1-0. Yazdani goes snap down and go behind, leads 3-0 at the break. Baran goes low single! Almost gets behind, but tree trunk legs gets his hips back and only gives up a stepout. Hi-c by Yazdani fought off by Baran, but Yazdani drives him out. Polish coach wants a challenge. Lost challenge, 5-1 now. Another high crotch fought off, Yazdani goes front head and stalemated. American ref Sammy Julian gives Baran a point after Yazdani repeatedly tries to choke Baran. Yazdani moves on with a 5-2 win.

Frank the Tank is up! Has Kvyatkovskyy of Ukraine. Early stoppage, par of the course in a Molinaro match. Frank hits his patented lefty hi-c for a 2-0 lead halfway through the period. Snag single on Ukraine's left leg, walks him out for a 3-0 lead. Shot for Ukraine stuffed by Molinaro, and he holds his 3-0 lead at the break. Kvyatkovskyy low single, long scramble and Ukraine tries a lace with one leg, looked dirty. Frank is hurt. Another lefty high crotch, and Frank gets the pushout to lead 4-1. Single by Ukraine into a gut and trails 5-4. But Frank gets another takedown! Molinaro pleading to the ref that he got bit. Another single! Frank leads 8-5 with 30 left. Frank wins! Molinaro will have defending world champ Frank Chamizo (ITA) for bronze.

Ganzorig vs Garcia, winner gets Navruzov for bronze. Ganzorig gets a stepout and leads 1-0. At the break, Ganzorig leads 2-0 on a stepout and shot clock point. Ganzorig in on a single, and Garcia runs to the edge. Caution and two offered, but only a stepout is given. Just like he has at all three world championships this Olympic cycle, Ganzorig will once again wrestle for bronze.

Cortina Lacerra (CUB) vs Saritov (ROU) in repechage. Both are former world bronzes hoping to win Olympic bronze. Romania goes on the clock. Not a lot of action, Cuba leads 1-0 at the break. Saritov goes drag into a gut, then transitions to a lace and rolls him twice. Just blew the match open and now leads 8-1. Saritov vs Odikadze for bronze.

Last repechage match, Reza Yazdani vs Magomed Ibragimov. Well, that was fast. Ibragimov goes overhook throw, then he hits the Gadson! And that's it, Ibragimov pins Yazdani!

Prelims: Neither Kyle Snyder or Frank Molinaro are on the upcoming bout board at this point. Some fire matches early, however. Boris Novachkov up 4-0 after 1 against Nasiri, now a td for Nasiri makes it 4-2. Novachkov hits a mis-direct takedown that makes Flo HQ erupt it was so pretty. 6-3. 8-5 Novachkov but starting to fade and it's 8-6, 20 to go. Now 8-7 and HE DID IT AGAIN!! Asgarov up 4-2 against Ukraine. Frank will get winner. Asgarov was 2012 Olympic champ at 60kg. Asgarov running up the score and now it's a 12-2 tech. Gut wrench off a td ends it. Frank v. Asgarov again.

Kyle Snyder IN THE HOLE on B. Molinaro v Gomez on B. 1-0 Gomez off of a shot-clock violation. Spear single by Gomez but Novachkov somehow defends.
