Hammer: Aniuar Geduev

American wrestling fans have been treated to some pretty epic wars between Jordan Burroughs and Denis Tsargush, but Tsargush has moved on to greener pastures and Aniuar Geduev is the heir apparent. He's not the "bad guy' character that will pull your singlet or wrench on an injury like we're used to seeing from Tsargush, instead Geduev delivers a steely calm and consistent pressure with one foot firmly planted in the small circle. Make no mistakes, if JB is going to get knocked off the throne Geduev is the one with the best chance of doing it.

Hardware: 2015 World Bronze Medalist

If it weren't for two men, Jordan Burroughs and Denis Tsargush, Aniuar Geduev's resume would be a lot more impressive. As it stands he has medaled in his only world championship appearance, losing by the slimmest of margins to Jordan Burroughs in the semis.

Smothering from ties

Con's
Doesn't wrestle from space real well.

It's hard to explain what, exactly, Geduev does on a wrestling mat because it doesn't look like much. There is a lot going on in those tie ups though. And that tie up is every present. Anuiar is smothering with his tie ups, in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu they call it being a "wet blanket". Aniuar is a wet blanket. Every time you try to break away from the situation he's right back in your face ready to engage. I've wrestled guys like him before, the constant pressure makes you feel as though you are wrestling 6 people at once.

Pat Downey has a new home. The former All American will be joining the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Downey has moved to Iowa City and will be training with the Hawkeye Wrestling Club while finishing up his degree online. He needs 15 more credits to graduate from Iowa State.

A 2015 NJCAA national champion, Downey was granted a full release from the Cyclones. He is targeting Midlands as his first competition where he will wrestle attached with Iowa.

While training with the HWC, the Maryland native plans to wrestle several senior level events, which tentatively include the Medved Prizes and Dave Schultz Memorial. Downey qualified for World Team Trials this year and is a past junior world silver medalist.

Two years ago, Downey was an All American at 197 for ISU; he is expected to compete at the same weight for Iowa. He is the second high profile transfer this summer for them, as they also added Pat Lugo.
