At the 2016 Southern Scuffle we saw a match up between the top 2 ranked 141 pounders in the country in the finals of the Southern Scuffle. It was a razor thin match that came down to tiebreakers and 2 stall calls against #2 Joey McKenna. The stall call that ultimately decided the match was given in the closing seconds of the period of time Joey was on top for Joey dropping down to the leg.
However, we have come to learn Joey being called for stalling the 2nd time was a mistake. The rules state that if the bottom man initially attacks the leg (which Heil did when he went for a switch) the top wrestler is allowed to attack the leg without a count beginning. Essentially the stall call should not have come. This point was the deciding one in a 2-1 match that Heil won.
Check out this gif of the sequence below.
The two are set for a rematch this Sunday at 2 PM CT when Stanford duals Oklahoma State Live On FLO. Heil is the lone blemish on Joey McKenna's record in what has been a spectacular season for the Cardinal Freshman. The bout saw McKenna get in on the majority of leg attacks but the incredible shot defense turned McKenna's attacks to near scores for Heil. Heil got in on a single late in SV1 but just ran out of time for what looked to be an imminent takedown.
With both guys coming into their conference tournaments as heavy favorites, it is entirely likely that this match will determine who is the #1 seed at NCAA's.
In addition to this incredibly interesting bout, we will also so a hot #15 Connor Schram coming in off a win over Ronnie Bresser take on #7 Eddie Klimara who is coming off a loss to Ryan Millhof.
