After 10 straight years of dominance in the state of California, which consisted of 91 consecutive dual meet victories, Clovis was handed its first loss on Thursday night in its home gym. The Cougars’ rivals, Buchanan, showed up ready to battle and it showed as they took home the 32-27 victory in front of an electric crowd of 3,000+.

Clovis took the early lead when #2-Justin Mejia pinned Chris Gaxiola in the first period of the opening bout, but that was quickly erased as the Bears collected four straight wins with Joel Romero, DJ Lloren and Greg Gaxiola each getting bonus points after Brett Villarreal outlasted Brandon Rhoads, 10-8. As expected, Clovis mounted a comeback, but wins from Brandon Martino, Josh Hokit, AJ and Seth Nevills would not be enough as Buchanan Freshman Matt Olguin shut the door on the reigning champs with his win over Brandon Betancourt putting the dual out of reach to end the 10-year streak.
