Taking On The World

World team spots are on the line for the U17 and U20 divisions. Each tournament concludes with a best-of-three series to determine who will represent the United States at each of these World Championships. The U15 division is competing for a Pan-Am Championship spot.

The 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions determine this country’s national champion in each age group.

U15 Pan-Am Championships: June 13-15, San Salvador, El Salvador
U17 World Championships: August 19-25, Amman, Jordan
U20 World Championships: September 2-8, Pontevedra, Spain

Another College National Championship (Sort Of)

The U23 division also concludes with a best-of-three series but winning doesn’t necessarily mean qualification for the World Championships. The top U23 eligible wrestler who places in the top three at the Olympic Trials can claim the spot. National champions in the U23 category are offered the spot if there isn’t a U23-eligible wrestler on the national team (top three).

U23 national champions will be offered the opportunity to compete at the U23 Pan-American Championships June 21-22 in Rio Negro, Colombia. If a champion cannot participate, the opportunity will be offered in rank order from runner-up down to eighth place in the weight class.

The U23 championships will feel like a college national tournament since many of the participants recently completed their college seasons. This allows for cross-divisional match-ups between NAIA, NCAA, and NJCAA divisions with a few high school stars sprinkled in.

NCWWC and NAIA champions registered in the U23 division include Amani Jones (North Central), Alara Boyd (North Central), Jaslynn Gallegos (North Central), Carolina Moreno (Southern Oregon), and Adaugo Nwachukwu (William Penn).

College national champions in the U20 division include Cristelle Rodriguez (Doane), Caitlyn Davis (Southern Oregon), Brianna Gonzalez (Iowa), Emilie Gonzalez (Iowa), and Reese Larramendy (Iowa).

That's on top of boatloads of All-Americans.

U23 World Championships: October 21-27, Tirana, Albania

Adaugo Is Back!

William Penn’s Adaugo Nwachukwu was recently named USA Wrestling Women’s College Wrestler of the Year. She is no longer U20 eligible but will compete in the U23 division before competing at the Olympic Trials in State College, Pennsylvania, on April 19-20.

Nwachukwu is a three-time NAIA champion, 2022 U20 World bronze medalist, and 2023 Final X participant.

The Ultimate Showdown: Morgan Turner vs Jaclyn Bouzakis

Good news for wrestling fans. Morgan Turner (P4P #3) and Jaclyn Bouzakis (P4P #4) are registered for the 46 kg weight category at the U17 World Team Trials. Both made the World team last year with Bouzakis taking bronze at 40 kg and Turner taking gold at 43 kg.

Turner won last year’s 16U Nationals (aka - Fargo) with a 2-2 win over Bouzakis in the 94-pound finals.

Bouzakis turned heads by winning the Warrior Women’s Open, knocking off the NAIA number one and NCAA number one.

Turner won an Illinois girls’ state title at 110 pounds after taking six weeks off due to an injury she suffered during her boys’ season.

If all goes according to plan, these two prep stars will meet in the best-of-three finals.
