Clarissa Chun: BRONZE MEDALIST

CLARISSA WINS BRONZE!!!!!

Clarissa Chun breaks through for the United States and wins a bronze medal over the Ukrainian in 2 periods over Irini Merleni 1-0, 3-0. Congrats Clarissa and way to get the USA going as we will be gunning for more medals.

ON THE BOARD!

Clarissa Chun opened U.S. wrestling’s medal count Wednesday afternoon with a virtuoso performance. In the Bronze medal match at 48kgs, Chun throttled Uzbek, Irini Merleni, a three-time World Champion, 2x Olympic Medalist, and 2004 Olympic Champion, in two straight periods 1-0, 3-0.

And oh, how dirty she did it!

With mere seconds remaining in an otherwise scoreless first, Chun hit an uncanny arm drag and takedown for the score.

At about the 1:30 mark of the second, Chun looked to be in trouble. She took a half shot that was counter and saw Merleni get to rear standing. But Chun backstepped out of it and hit an arm spin for 3, essentially sealing the deal.

Congratulations to 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist Clarissa Chun!

Chun To Go For Bronze!

The U.S. will be wrestling in it’s first medal bout in wrestling in the XXX London games when 48kg star Clarissa Chun takes on Irini Merleni of Uzbekistan.

Chun lost in the second round to 2009 World Champion Maryia Stadnyk (AZE) in two periods. Stadnyk went on to make the finals today, which drew Chun back into the medal contention.

In her first repechage match, Chun lost the first period in the clinch to Iwona Matkoska (POL). But Chun was sharp in the second period, scoring a pushout before landing a three point throw. Chun kept the pressure on and got the fall :36 into the second period.

Chun Into Repechage

48kg Olympian Clarissa Chun’s medal hopes remain alive.

Mariya Stadnyk (AZE), who beat Chun in the second round, has made the finals, drawing Chun back in to the repechage.

In Chun’s first bout she’ll face Iwona Matkowski of Poland. A win there would put her in the Bronze medal match opposite Ireni Merlini of Ukraine.

Chun Still Alive

Azerbaijani Maryia Stadnyk advanced to the semifinals at 48kgs. Should she win her next bout, she’d be in the finals, drawing Clarissa Chun back into the repechage with a chance to fight for Bronze.

Stadnyk’s next opponent is Ukraine’s Irini Merleni.

Clarissa Drops Second Bout
U.S. 48kg wrestler Clarissa Chun dropped her second bout Wednesday at the hands of 2009 World Champion Maryia Stadnyk (AZE) 0-2, 0-3.

Stadnyk looked like she physically overpowered Chun, easily stuffing her shots and countering.

Chun had defeated Shasha Zhao (CHN) in the opening round 5-0, 1-0.

Chun now has to hope that Stadnyk wins her next to matches to keep medal chances alive.
