In arguably the biggest upset of the tournament, 2024 Yarygin champion and 2021 World silver Magomed Kurbanov lost to Arsen-Ali Musalaliev. Musalaliev injury defaulted out the next match, so although he picked up a big win, his past performances, like going 0-2 at the Yarygin this year, keep him out of the top eight. Contrarily, Kurbanov's past performances allow him to only fall to #2 for now.

Kurbanov's helped set the stage for Alan Bagaev to run the table. After taking bronze at this tournament last year, he defeated Saadullaev, Nazhmudinov, Erkhituev, Surkhaev, and Gadzhialiev en route to gold this year. Azamat Zakuev and Mustafagadzhi Malachdibirov did not compete for reasons I am not sure.
