2022-23 Atlantic Coast Conference Rankings

157 pounds

This weight class was difficult to put together, as the top five all have mixed results against one another. Bryce Andonian had an incredible run at the NCAA tournament where he finished third at 149 pounds. Ed Scott is the returning ACC champion at this weight class, winning the title over Austin O’Connor, while also taking a loss to Jake Keating during the regular season in which he was able to avenge by fall in the ACC semifinals. However, Scott fell short of reaching the podium in 2022, losing in the round of 12. Despite winning the 2021 NCAA title at 149 pounds, O’Connor’s 2022 season was plagued by injury. He was still able to overcome and get on the podium, finishing eighth at 157 pounds. Along the way, O’Connor took losses to Scott in the ACC final and Dazjon Casto in the opening round of the NCAA tournament while Casto was still competing for The Citadel. We went with Andonian in the #1 ranking, as he is the highest returning All-American. Scott will occupy the #2 ranking despite failing to All-American in 2022 due in large part to his most recent victory over O’Connor. Despite losing to Casto in the opening round of the national tournament, O’Connor will take the #3 ranking over Casto because he was able to overcome that loss and finish as an All-American. All in all, this weight class should be a ton of fun to follow throughout the season.
