With Russia currently banned from the world championships, returning silver medalist Daton Fix is the favorite to win this year's worlds. Last year, Fix defeated #2 Arsen Harutyunyan and #3 Ravinder Dahiya on his way to the finals of the world championships. # Eduard Grigorev and #5 Zelimkhan Abakarov have had a strong start to the 2022 season and look to be legitimate threats to everyone in this weight. One of the biggest dark horses in this weight will come from whoever Japan sends. 2016 Olympic silver medalist Rei Higuchi won the Asian Championships but lost to fellow countryman Ryuto Sakaki at a national tournament last December. Either Sakaki or Higuchi will be dangerous in Serbia and have the potential to defeat anyone in this weight.
