2021-22 NCAA DI Rankings

Peyton Baskin Robb'ins

Peyton Robb came oh-so-close to having himself a week for the ages. First, on Thursday, he defeats 149-pound 2021 NCAA champ, Austin O'Connor, in a dual meet. Then, on Sunday, he makes the finals of the Daktronics Open and has 157-pound 2021 NCAA champ, David Carr, on the ropes before losing in sudden victory.

Two champs in one week would have been a likely (we won't commit to hypotheticals but, like, probably) #1 ranking for Robb. Instead, he only moves up to #7.

O'Connor slides down one spot, thanks to building up a lot of slack, as national champs often do. He stays above Teemer, Lee, Monday and Robb. For now, anyway.

Speaking of Monday, he defeated Kaleb Young, avenging a loss from their last meeting and looked very slick in doing so. Those style points didn't help him in the rankings, but the victory did, boosting him up a spot.

Elsewhere, Parker Kropman continued to give rankers whiplash, winning four matches at the Keystone Classic but dropping one to Askey of App State, who we are assuming will be Cody Bond's back up. Bond lost to Tarsi of Harvard, who are assuming is Jaffee's backup. Or perhaps not in both cases? We'll monitor and adjust as necessary.

There was more chaos at the Navy Classic, as Jordan Slivka defeated Chase Saldate, avenging a loss from the Michigan State Open. Slivka also beat Alex Carida and Dazjon Casto. However, Slivka lost earlier this year to Bryce Hepner, who lost to Connor Brady. We're assuming Hepner will be the starter for the Buckeyes, though it could be Jashon Hubbard.

We tried to do the best we could with all that information but it's a big mess. Apologies for the skimpy explanation. For what it's worth, we expect these rankings to change often as the season progresses. Really, we just appreciate anyone you managed to make it this far in the explanation. You're the real hero here.
