2021-22 NCAA DI Rankings

May the Schwartz be with you

Not to be outdone by their lighter friends at 125-pounds, 133 decided to unleash a couple of surprises of their own on the unsuspecting collegiate rankers, and frankly, we didn't deserve any of this.

But here we are, dealing with the fallout of Malyke Hines pinning Micky Phillippi with 3 seconds left in a match he was losing. We also have to figure out what to do with Tony Madrigal after his hot streak was cooled off by Mosha Schwartz.

We moved Hines and Schwartz up in tandem, as they both now have solid ranked wins. Hines does have a loss this season but his track record last year is solid and Phillippi has been a top 10 guy for the better part of three years. A Madrigal win doesn't have quite have as much juice, and Schwartz has a less impressive resume, so he stays behind Hines, despite being undefeated on the season so far.

Phillippi only drops one spot, while Madrigal falls two.

Finally, Jackson DiSario defeated Sobotker, who is still living in the penumbra off his victory over Sammy Alvarez from week 1. DiSario sneaks into the rankings while Sobotker hangs on to his honorable mention honors.

And we buried the lead, as the biggest news for this weight class is the fact that Vito Arujau moved up from 125. Rankings are not predictions, so we don't have to worry about whether to not we'd pick Vito to win a match against DeSanto, Fix or RBY. We also don't factor in freestyle results, so Vito slides into the #4 slot, becayse he hasn't wrestled a college match in two years and the aforementioned top three have all proven themselves to be top three guys at 133 (mainly by finishing in the top 3 at the weight class at last NCAAs, but also because of other stuff).
